Fishers, Indiana is home to the world’s second largest shooting range and one of the most popular gun ranges in the United States. The history of this area’s gunshooting community goes back to 1887 when a group of men from Fishers began practicing on a public open space. In 1922, the first NRA course was held in Fishers, and today, it is one of the country’s leading shooting communities. In addition to its hosting of official NRA courses and events, Fishers has long been known as an important center forgun rights activism and education. In 1969, Mayor John Hieftje dedicated a park in town square to honor firefighters who had died in service. Today, the park features a visitors center with exhibits about local gun history and culture; as well as an outdoor firing range that can accommodate up to 50 shooters at a time.

Fishers is a town in southwestern Indiana, United States. The population was 3,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute-Brownsburg, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fishers is located on the confluence of the White and Black rivers. The settlement that would become Fishers was founded by George Washington Fisher in 1781 as a log cabin on what is now known as Third Street. In 1824, John Fenton built a sawmill and grist mill on the same site. By 1850, Fishers had six businesses: two stores, one hardware store, and one farm store. The first post office was established in 1851. In 1872, several men from nearby Terre Haute pooled their money to build a water wheel that would power an irrigation system for the village of Brownsburg. In 1893, when the White River became too polluted for swimming after heavy rains*, residents petitioned for cityhood and were granted it in 1895. That year also saw another key event in fishers history; George Washington Fisher died at age 93 years old and bequeathed his entire estate to the town.* In 1907–08* fishermen developed a new type of fishing gear *the electric shuckers* which allowed them to catch more fish with less effort than traditional methods such as trolling or casting*. The device quickly became popular among anglers across America *. In 1994-95* members of local government formed what came to be known as “The Community Council” which sought to resolve various issues within town limits *. Among these issues were concerns about traffic congestion*, crime rates*, and lack of access to basic services like healthcare*. Ultimately this council helped shape many aspects of current day life within fishers*.
The first firearms were designed to be sights, and the first sighting devices were called “gun sights.” The use of a sight in guns began with the hunting of small game, such as rabbits and squirrels. As these animals grew larger, it became necessary to find a way to point the firearm at them so that they could be killed with ease. This was done by using a sighting device known as a “gunsight.” A gunsight consisted of an iron or other metal disk that was inserted into the bore of the gun and used as a target for training purposes. The purpose of this device was two-fold: first, it allowed shooters to aim their firearms accurately; second, it helped shooters determine which side of an animal they were shooting at. As time passed, different types of guns were developed, and new types of sights became necessary for each type of weapon. For instance, handguns required sighted-in barrels in order to fire successfully; rifles utilized open sights which resembled crosshairs on a map; while shotguns utilized variable aperture sights which let shooters adjust how much light entered the barrel at any one time. In all cases, when new types of firearms appeared, Sighting Devices had to be designed anew in order to accommodate them properly.
The first reliable sighting devices for firearms were invented in the 16th century. The most common type of sighting device at the time was a crossbow sight, which could be improved with lenses and an eyepiece to improve accuracy. By the late 18th century, rifle sights had become more reliable and easier to use, and handguns began incorporating them into their design.
Fishers is an unincorporated community in Tipton County, Indiana. It was founded in 1849 by John Fisher and his wife, Eliza. The community has a post office with the name of Fishers, which opened in 1851.
Fishers was founded in 1795 by James Fisher and his brother John. The town was named for the fishing village of Fritsch, Germany. In 1827, the brothers opened a store in what is now downtown Fishers. The family operated the business until 1911 when it passed to their son, Ernest W. Fisher. In 1916, Ernest W. Fisher married Althea (Haley) Broughton and the couple established a grocery store on Main Street in downtown Fishers which they operated until their death in 1971. In 1951, Ernest W. and Althea's son, George E. Fisher bought the business from their father and kept it running until 1985 when it became part of JCPenney Incorporated
