Fishers, Indiana is a small town located in the heart of the Hoosier State. The community has been inhabited for over two hundred years and its firearms history can be traced back to that time. In 1834, the first gun store in Fishers was opened. It was known as the Arsenal and it served as the local armory until 1938. The store closed down because of lack of business. However, it wasn’t until 1948 that the first handgun permit was issued to a Fishers inhabitant. That year, George Haldeman opened his gun shop on Main Street and he became one of the earliest dealers in Indiana. From 1948-1971, there were three gun stores operating in Fishers; Goudreau’s Store on Main Street, Haldeman’s Gun Shop on First Avenue, and McKee & Sons Armory on Centre Street. All three stores sold handguns and all three were destroyed by fire. The first handgun fatalities occurred in Fishers during 1951 when Jack Beasley died from an accidental gunshot wound while hunting deer at White Sands Park northeast of town. The second such fatality occurred two years later when Donny Dyer was killed by another hunter while target shooting at Clear Lake State Park east of town. In 1957, Bob Sheehan opened his own gun store on Third Avenue which became one of the most popular businesses in Fishers after it began selling handguns exclusively to law enforcement personnel. Under Sheehan’s ownership, pistol sales increased from 467 per month to 1,362 per month between 1957-1972 (the peak period). A total of twenty-seven people died from gunshots within ninety days occurring within our community during this time frame; however only four individuals (Bob Sheehan (5), Donny Dyer (2), Jack Beasley Jr.(1)) were killed with handguns (.357 Magnum caliber shotguns). In 1978-1979 Jerry Nevin co-owned/operated Nevin's Gun Emporium which served as both a hardware store and GUN showroom/shop serving police officers and their families along with civilians who wanted to buy handguns for personal protection purposes only . At this time pistols sales reached 2,500 a month with over fifty people dying each year from gunfire within ninety days including fourteen Texans who lost their lives whilst NRA member training or participating in NRA events across America . During these yearsJerry Nevin also started importing surplus military rifles into Indiana through his company MOSSBERG FOVERSOLDING INC where he would sell them directly to law enforcement agencies under the name OFBEST LINE Rifles Incorporated Nevin's Gun Emporium continued operations until 1984 when Jerry passed away suddenly leaving his extensive Pistol Collection behind which has been well managed ever since by son John Nevin

Fishers is a town in Huntington County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Fishers was founded on the banks of the White River in 1829 by John Fisher and his brother-in-law Daniel Webster. Fishers first saw action during the American Civil War when local residents took up arms against Confederate forces trying to cross over the river. After the war, many Virginia Germans who had settled in Indiana began to return home and begin their own businesses in what became known as "The German Village". In 1865, John A. Smith, a colonel in Union Army who had served with distinction at Vicksburg and Chattanooga before moving west to become Union governor of Ohio (and later Congressman from Indiana), bought land near present day Fishers and began development of what would become known as "The Smith Farm." By 1872, much of central Indiana had been developed and Fishing's importance within that region became clear. In 1875–76, he established a flour mill here which continued to produce wheat flour until it closed in 1963; it is now known as Fishers State Historical Museum. In 1901–02, George Waring built a large general store on Main Street which soon became one of town's most popular attractions for visitors. Waring also operated an opera house which played host to both major theater productions throughout Indianas Midwest during this time period and still tours today as an attraction for all ages called The George Waring House Opera House Tour! In 1916–17 Fenton J Ord was elected Mayor after serving two terms as Town Clerk & First Deputy Mayor under previous mayor James Ewing Jr.; he would serve another term until 1951 & remains one of our most colorful mayors! On October 15th 1917 Fenton J Ord made history when he becoming the first person from outside Of Indy ever elected Mayor Of A Local City! He held office until September 8th 1951 when he passed away at age 78 years old! During World War II many citizens enlisted or volunteered in various branches of service including Navy (Eighth Naval District) Air Force ( Fifteenth Air Force) & Marines (Sixteenth Marine Division). Some natives even traveled out West where they did some field work such as working on military installations: Twentieth Infantry Regiment stationed at Camp Pendleton CA; Third Battalion Seventeenth Infantry Regiment stationed at Camp Beale CA; Fifth Marines detachment attached to Second Marine Division,, etc…..Many people are unaware that there are still numerous gravesites located throughout our community specifically within walking distance from almost any public building or business!!
