Fishers is a town in southeastern Indiana, United States. It was founded by the Potawatomi tribe and named for its river, the Fisher River. The first settler in Fishers was Elijah Woods. In 1814, the community of Fort Wayne was founded nearby and became the county seat of Posey County. The towns of Kokomo and Noblesville were established around this time. In 1836, John Marshall moved to Fishtown from his home in Kokomo and opened a grocery store there. He hired Samuel Hinton as his assistant grocer. Marshall's Store became one of the most successful stores in town. By 1840, some buildings on Main Street had been erected including a Baptist church which served as meeting hall until it burned down in 1881; an opera house (now known as downtown Fishers); a Mechanic shop; three blacksmith shops; two hotels-the First National Hotel (later renamed the Indiana State Capitol Hotel) and the Second National Hotel-and several other businesses including a schoolhouse, grain elevator, hotel barn and post office building. The population of Fishers reached 1,000 by 1880 but itdeclined rapidly during the years leading up to World War I when many residents left for military service or died in battle. However, after America entered WWI, fishing began to grow again thanks to American submarines capable of sinking German submarines off shore that threatened Ulysses S Grant's supply line through Lake Michigan Fishers also played an important role during Prohibition because many local breweries opposed prohibition while others benefited from it After Prohibition ended in 1933, many small businesses closed either due to lack of customers or competition from larger breweries

Fishers is a town in LaGrange County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis–DeKalb, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Fishers were Loyalists who left North Carolina to escape British rule during the American Revolution. They arrived in what is now LaGrange County on December 20, 1786. Reverend Amos Preston founded Preston's Chapel and School in what is now Fishers in 1789. The post office was established in 1802 and named for Salmon P. Chase, Jr., Secretary of State under President George Washington. In 1824, John Brougham donated land to establish a town square in the center of Fishers and named it after himself as a mark of appreciation for his help with developing that area. Fishers grew rapidly due to its location by the river and its easy access to highways such as I-65 and I-465 which made it an important transportation hub for both local businesses and commuters alike. The influx of people also stimulated growth within the community with many new businesses being developed such as a lumberyard, grocery store, restaurant and so on; making Fishers one of the most vibrant communities in central Indiana during this time period. In 1973, Educational Television Network (ETN) began operations based out of their former headquarters located adjacent to Eastern Illinois University (EIU). ETN would later move into their current facilities located just off US 36 across from Central High School which would become home to both ETN’s television studios as well as primary programming areas including sports production offices while EIU continued to operate their student union wing which housed students’ clubs/ organizations like masonic lodges etcetera until 1997 when they merged with Central High School administration creating one large school building known today as “The Gables” which still houses portions of ETN’s television studios along with various other school administrative functions currently housed inside Central High School Administration Building prior to its demolition following Decatur Street construction which destroyed most if not all original infrastructure within “The Gables” complex resulting in significant loss or damage To many old school property values within minutes following shutter date

By 1850, Fisher had 1,500 residents and a sawmill. In 1868, the city of Fisher merged with nearby Terre Haute to form a new city called Terre Haute-Fishers.
