In 1951, Harry Wojtek began selling optoelectronic items from his new company called WMFT Electronics Corporation from his old business location on Second Street in DowntownEvansville! At this time, Optoelectronics was considered to be an exciting new field that had many potential applications for businesses like WMFT Electronics Corporation! In 1984, WMFT Electronics Corporation merged with two other companies to form what is now known as Micromax Incorporated! The history of Evansville goes back to 1795 when Captain George Rogers Clark founded what would become Evansville on land that he purchased from the nearby Potawatomi Nation. In 1802, John Marshall donated land for a courthouse and town square in what is now downtown Evansville. On July 4, 1814, Evansville was incorporated as a village by General James Hays. The first post office opened in 1816 and remained open until it was closed by mail order in 1903. The early years of Evanston were very difficult because there were no roads or railways coming into town and people had to travel long distances just to get services like water or flour. However, over time things changed as transportation became easier and more available. In 1870–71, construction began on the Indianapolis & Toledo Railroad which connected Indianapolis with Chicago via Evansville. This made life much easier for people living near Indy because they could easily get their goods and services without having to go far out of their way (although today you still have to drive about 40 minutes east from Indianapolis). By 1899, the population of Evanston had reached 2,500 but it only grew slowly due to lack of economic opportunity outside of downtown Evanston. In 1907–08 hostilities began between Indiana state troopers and Al Capone's gangsters during the " flush times" period before Prohibition took effect across America. As a result of this violence many businesses were destroyed including several leading grocery stores located along Fifth Street near Southport Boulevard/I-465 which remain significant tourist destinations today thanks to their architecture (and preserved interiors) as well as their unique historic location next door to one of America's most famous crime scenes! During World War II service members from both sides gathered in Evansville for war supplies while locals helped put up tents on public streets so that soldiers could stay warm during winter months while away from home; an event now known as "Rhinestone Ridge". After V-E Day President Harry S Truman called upon all Americans not just local veterans but also everyone who had contributed something - anything - towards victory throughout World War II to come together at Ford Fairgrounds where he presented medals and awards along with $1 million dollars in cash donations which went towards relief efforts following Hiroshima and Nagasaki – an event now known as "V-E Day 2020".
