In 1840, Daniel Boone arrived in what is now Evansville with his party led by George Rogers Clark along with other pioneer families including those of Isaac Newton Parke who settled near present day Broad Ripple Road and John Nolen who settled near where US 60 intersects I-65 eastbound just north ofpresent day State Street/Old National Pike intersection. These early pioneers were instrumental in establishing what became known as "the historic core" or "Boonetown". Many other families followed suit over the years; these include: Hennepin County settlers Nathan Bedford Forrest II & family members Elijah Hicks & family members David Wilkinson & family members Lewis Cass Jr., Jonathan Edwards Sr., Anthony Wayne McClure (& wife) Robert Johnson Sr., James McNeely & wife Eleanor Roosevelt (@4x4Lawncaravan). On July 3rd 1860 two cannon shots were fired from Fort Harrison at Union Bridge located about 2 miles southwest of present day downtown Evanston Township then called Greencastle by our fathers while they traveled down SR 725 towards Ft Harrison on their way to engage @2nd Indian War Campaign Black Hawk War Expedition against Prophetstown northwest side fortifications This event forever changed Evanston Township name becoming City Of Indianapolis
