At that time, much of downtown was destroyed by fire but was rebuilt within a few years using local materials and labor under guidance from then-Mayor James Wickersham (1906-1910). Wickersham also helped found both Purdue University (1865) and Notre Dame (1868), two world renowned universities which continue to thrive today: Purdue has been ranked among "The Top 10 American Universities" four times since 1990 while Notre Dame has been again ranked among "The Top 25 Universities Worldwide" five times since 2000 In 1916 Indianapolis merged with three other cities – Dayton, Cincinnati and Moline – creating the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area which included all of central Indiana except Evanston where Mayor Harry Buttolph opposed consolidation because he wanted more control over education resources within his own municipality. In 1924 when Indianapolis reorganized into wards based on racial boundaries set by new state legislators – blacks were allocated 2/3 white votes while whites received 1/3 black votes – Evanston seceded from Indianapolis Township effective October 1, 1925 (). However despite Buttolph’s efforts to keep Evanston annexed into Indianapolis Township throughout our history race continued play an important role in community decision making especially during prohibition era when many African Americans worked along with white men selling alcohol directly to customers without getting any government liquor licenses! The pellets travel through the air quickly, so they hit their target pretty hard. When youfire these weapons again and again, it builds up an amount of speed which causes them to fly further and harder into their opponents' faces than if they were shot by hand.

Evansville is located in the central region of Indiana, just south of the Ohio River. The community was founded in 1814 by General James Evans and his family as a stop on the Erie Canal. For many years, Evansville was an important transportation and trade center in the area. In addition to its economic importance, Evansville also served as a major political center during the mid-19th century. The first people to live in Evansville were European settlers who arrived from England in 1814. They built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the river. Over time, other groups followed suit, beginning what is known as the "Old World" migration to Indiana. By 1830, there were over 100 English-speakers living in Evansville. In 1834, General James Evans became president of Indianapolis and decided to move his family westward into what is now Michigan Territory. He and his wife took up residence at Fort Dearborn near present-day Lansingburgh, New York. General Evans died suddenly while traveling westward on horseback before reaching their new homebase at Fort Dearborn. His widow continued moving her household goods eastward along with most of the original English-speaking settlers until she finally settled permanently in Evanston Township near Chicago in 1839. During these early days of Indiana's history, support for Indian removal policies was strong among many citizens of the state. Many residents believed that removing all or most of India's ancient population would speed up native settlement and increase agricultural production statewide . However, after much debate and resistance from local leaders, prominent Citizens Committee voted not to remove any Indians from central Indiana during their meeting on November 26th 1840 . Shortly thereafter however several men led by Captain John Davenport made an abortive attempt to cross overland through what is now North Bend Township (now Porter County) on December 6th 1840 . The venture failed due to snowmobilers being encountered midway across the frozen river bed! This event signaled perhaps more definitively than ever before how difficult it would be for anyone attempting such an ambitious undertaking . Consequently given this discouraging news some influential Cincinnati businessmen formed Company H which purchased 1/3rd interest in 5200 acres (2 square miles) within today’s downtown Evansville limits – comprising currently much older commercial blocks bounded by 4th Street NW., 5th Avenue NW., 7th Avenue NE., 2nd Street SW., 10TH Avenue SE., Stations Park NWR & Ives Rd.– making it possible for them eventually “to build up [the] town so they could have it forever” (Foner). Indeed Company H soon accomplished this goal; marketing its holdings as “The Townships” around1850-1860 but never relinquishing control until relatively recently when 4ths Street NW became part of Downtown Evanston (& Illinois State Capitol building boundaries). Today much newer blocks bounded by 4th Street NWrebounded back onto those old streets about 1900 following construction of Northwestern Memorial Hospital complex adjacent thereto… foregoing discussion concerning pre-existing City Limits which consisted principally of unincorporated land situated east & southeast thereof between bounds aforesaid (Foner 927–928).
