It produced powder, shot, cannon balls, cartridges and other munitions. Stephenson is credited with having designed the first wagon trainLOADED with firearms to cross Indian country – this event is often referred to as “The Indiana Massacre”. 2) In 1814, George Armstrong founded Armstrong Cartridge Company in Evansville after purchasing a mill that had been used to produce gunpowder for military use. He soon became known for his quality ammo products andrew moonley/the high power rifle company/Armstrong rifles/moonleys were some of the earliest successful rifle models 3) In 1846, Julius Oppenheimer founded Oppenheimer Manufacturing Company in Evansville after moving from Germany to start a manufacturing business based on new principles of artillery rounds production that allowed round bullets instead of cordite (exploded cotton bales) to be developed 4) In 1865, Armour & Co., also based in Evansville, became one of America’s leading ammunition manufacturers 5) Today there are multiple facilities operated by various companies throughout Evansville which produce both antique and modern ammunition products

In 1853, a French scientist named Léon-Jacques Conte developed an improved percussion revolver which shot pellets instead of round balls. This allowed him to create a more powerful gun than his predecessors had been able to build. However, this new type of firearm was not very popular due to its high cost and difficulty in using. As a result, it was not until 1874 when Greek artilleryman Adamantios Venizelos created the first self-loading rifle which could be fired by drawing fire from one side only. This weapon was called the Venizelos Rifle and is still in use today. Over time, other projectile types have been introduced into firearms such as cannonballs, grenades, rockets, smokeless powder weapons and even explosive devices. Evansville is a city in the U.S. state of Indiana, the seat of Howard County. The population was 103,569 at the 2010 census, making it the second most populous city in Howard County after Indianapolis. Evansville is also home to Purdue University and Indiana State University-Purdue University Indianapolis. The first permanent settler in Evansville was James Hulbert, who founded what is now called Hazelwood on November 11, 1814. Other early settlers included John Ladd and Isaac Orr. The town was platted on December 3rd, 1827 by Captain George Wilkinson and his brother James Wilkinson Jr., under the name "New Evanston". In 1830, New Evanston changed its name to "Evanston". On January 1st of that year, the town became part of the newly created state of Indiana as a result of a land purchase from Daniel Boone. In 1839, Evansville became known as "TheBirthplace of America" when General Harrison visited to campaign for his presidential candidacy and stopped in town for dinner with then-Governor Nicholas Meridian. The site had been selected by President Jackson as an exposed location for a new national capital during his administration's push for another location for Washington D.C.. However, due to funding shortages within Congress following Andrew Jackson's presidency, President John Fenton instead chose Baltimore – which would later become known as Washington D.C.– on May 14th 1840 while Evansville continued to serve as headquarters for Howard County until 1860 when that county moved to Indianapolis under Governor Peter Vigo (1812–1876). By 1840s Evansville had become one of the leading steamboatsport cities in America due its proximity to Lake Erie and its large shipping fleet including several vessels built by Oliver Hazard Perry at nearby Monmouth Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company along with others such as CSS Ohio (now parts of Great Lakes Cruise Line) operated out of nearby Porter shipyards along with several smallpox experiments conducted there by Drs William Cullen Bryant and Zebulon Pike between 1847-49; all this activity helped make Evanston one of America’s largest ports through which goods were transported northward during this time period
