Bipedalism as we know it began with the development of a walking stick, which was used by men and animals to assist in theirdaily activities. The first bipod was designed to help an infantryman stand up on his feet while firing his rifle. This device allowed cavalrymen to fire from horseback, and allowed artillerymen to cover their targets more easily. In 1859, Major George Armstrong Custer used a bipod on his white horse Galloping Boy during the Battle of Little Bighorn. It was this event that initiated the use of bipods by American soldiers throughout World War II. Today, bipods are still used extensively by military personnel all over the world. They are especially useful when terrain or weather conditions require them to be able to stand unsupported for extended periods of time. Some common uses for bipods include: -Standing on tightropes for climbs or jumps; -Fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan using improvised explosive devices (IEDs); -Using a tripod when taking pictures or video; -Helping firefighters put out fires;

Mammals evolved from quadrupedal ancestors that were able to stand on their hind legs and access resources beneath them. A bipedal ancestor would have been unable to do this and would have had to use their front limbs for movement. As humans developed, they began using both their hands and feet to interact with the environment around them. This allowed them to adapt their phenotype which was eventually modified into bipedality as a result of selective pressure from other organisms, including other primates (Haglund & Haglund 2009). The ability of an animal to move independently has been used by humans for a range of purposes including navigation, hunting, fighting, first steps in learning new skills, etc (Fowler 2003). In general, bipedality has given humans an advantage over other species when it comes to certain activities because it allows them more control over their surroundings. For example, people are better able To navigate than non-bipedal creatures because they can use landmarks and smells as reference points (Fowler 2003). Additionally, bipedality allows us easier access to different parts of our body since we can shift our weight from one foot to another easily (Kramer & Kipperstein 1988). Finally, bipedality gives us advantages in terms of strength and dexterity due to the fact that we use both our hands and feet for activity (Wang et al.)

After years of being used as a trading post between various Native nations and people from Illinois and other states, Fort Dearborn was built in 1847 by Major John Cranch as part of Ulysses S Grant's Indian removal campaign. As more settlers came through this area, trade became important so Fort Dearborn grew into one of the largest military posts west of Missouri during the mid-19th century. This fort eventually became known as Elkhart Army Depot after being sold off to different companies during World War II (again due to its strategic importance). Elkhart, Indiana is a town in Elkhart County, Indiana, United States. The population was 8,829 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Elkhart County. The history of Elkhart began with the arrival of Europeans in what is now Elkhart County in 1824. The first European to reside in present-day Elkhart was Nicholas de Lacrosse and his family. In 1834, John Clements established a post office in what is now downtown Elkhart and named it after his father-in-law, Elijah Haskell Ketchum. However, growth resumed in the 1870s as new industries began to emerge in Elkhart. The city experienced another period of rapid growth during the late 19th century as it became an important center for transportation and trade within southern Indiana. In 1907, Elkhart was designated as a city by then-Governor James Mecom.
