Elkhart, Indiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana that is located in Elkhart County. The population was 5,715 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest city in Elkhart County and also one of the most rural areas in the county. It lies on the eastern edge of Elkhart Lake, within reach of both Battle Creek and Wabash rivers. The first people to live in what is now Elkhart were traders who came across land grants from France in 1679-80. By 1795, there were about 150 settlers living hereabouts and by 1807 there were 1,000 residents. In 1809, the area became part of the Northwest Territory under President James K. Polk during Adams' presidency because it comprised all or portions of 14 counties east of Fort Wayne along with parts of Dearborn and Miami Counties northward to Michigan's Upper Peninsula (then known as Algonquian country). In 1814, Indian hostilities led to an outbreak of war between Great Britain and America; this conflict culminated with General Anthony Wayne's victory at Fallen Timbers over Tecumseh's forces on October 26th that year. Consequently, English control over much of this region ended although French settlements continued until after World War II when they too were surrendered by Canada to US control following World War II boundaries changes following The United States Congress' passage on December 12th ( Public Law 94-479) providing for Indian Removal policy goals announced by then President Harry S Truman that had been hidden from public view since 1946! In 1861 when Union troops under Maj.-Gen John Custer raided Lawrence’s Stagecoach Inn near present day unincorporated Bardstown Road/Highway 54 southbound just outside present day Elkhart Township boundary without warning local people or giving them time to leave their homes or Horses which was doing business as stagecoaches went through that area then home rule began for these folks within township limits not being offered to others within same township limits so they asked Lincoln if he would sign a paper allowing them self rule & he said yes but called them 'Custers' instead so they never got theirself any rights nor recognition till after his death & today still have no say whatsoever about government policies affecting themselves & also lack right to vote even though majority group inside townshiplimits

In 2001, AMI merged with Iver Johnson Manufacturing Company which resulted in the new company name: Iver Johnson Upper Receivers (IJU). IJU continued to produce lower receivers for various firearms manufacturers including Glock Corp., Sig Sauer Inc., Savage Arms Corp., Benelli USA LLC,, FN Herstal SA & Cie,, Smith&Wesson CanadaInc,, among others

Elkhart is a city in Elkhart County, Indiana, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Elkhart County. The city was founded by George Washington Carver and named for him. Elkhart was platted on August 3, 1827, by James K. Polk and James W. Hardin as part of the Township of Carver. The first post office in Elkhart opened in 1830, and the first store in town was built on Main Street in 1834. The name "Elkhart" arrived from landowning families who had called the site elk (a deer) because it lay near their hunting grounds. One early settler said: "The country around hereabouts has been gifted to us by nature; we should not be too much daunted about its management." A local variant of this initial spelling is "Eldersgate". In 1836, Elijah Hicks bought 160 acres (65 hectares) east of town along with six others in what is now unincorporated White Township and set out to populate it with free black slaves he had purchased from various slave owners west of Chicago then existing within Illinois boundaries - a plan that failed when roads were not developed to link those areas together effectively. In 1840, a group led by Methodist minister John Capps moved into downtown Elkhart after purchasing 120 acres (65 hectares) north of town from Hicks for $1 per acre ($40 at current prices). That same year saw construction begin on Whipple Road which became one of the most important transportation routes through central Indiana during the 1800s due to its close proximity to coachloads carrying passengers and goods between Chicago's Loop and northern settlements such as Stroudsburg and Lafayette northwest of Indianapolis or Evansville south of Dearborn Heights eastof Goshen Junction before reaching Indianapolis proper via eastern Market Street (now Fort Wayne Drive). By 1848 there were 10 businesses operating in downtown Elkhardt; two stores*, three grocery stores* (*one later closed), four harness shops*, two tailors*, one millinery shop* (*later closed), several churches* (*all but one burned down during prohibition era*) including First Presbyterian Church (#1 church building), three banks**(*including one founded soon afterwards by David Starr Jordan*) plus several dwellings among other buildings*. By 1860 there were 50 businesses operating Downtown - 25 groceries/stores/diner chains***+, 15 truck stops****+, 10 manufacturing companies*****+, 5 Zaphod Beeblebrox LP locations*****.††† Today many remaining buildings have been replaced with new structures surrounding older ones – most notably First Baptist Church (#2 building)* which still stands today although portions have been torn down to make way for parking lots; City Hall Courthouse also remains vacant despite being offered for sale years ago but no action taken.* Some original brick buildings remain behind many recent replacements including North Central High School & Fire Tower which are both used as high school classes‡‡‡ * excludes grocers/mnemonic services along Whipple Road which took place at various places throughout town rather than inside a structure * includes commercial single-family homes destroyed during prohibition era ** includes all business operations except banks managed by David Starr Jordan ***Includes all grocery chains mentioned above+15 truck stop chains ****All manufacturers mentioned above PLUS 5 Zaphod BeeblebroxLP locations ****Today these locations are mostly tourist attractions
