The first version of Hammond's earplug was made out of leather and had a small hole in it that allowed the user to put their mouth over the hole and listen to music or spoken words without being heard by others. In 1905, an American company called JT Earphones began producing ear plugs with a different design which allowed users to listen to music through headphones while they shot. This new type of earplug became known as the "JT Shooter Ear Plug". The popularity of these earplugs led to more manufacturers coming up with similar designs and models over time. In 1922, another American company called Omega Company produced an innovative type of shooter ear plug which allowed users to listen to audio electronically through headphones while they were shooting. This new type of earplug became known as the "Omega Shooter Ear Plug". The development of shooter ear plugs has been a long and rich history, with many different innovation and design changes happening along the way. East Chicago is a city in the U.S. state of Indiana, located on the east side of Lake Michigan. As of 2010, the population was 69,827. The city is one of the most economically struggling cities in the United States and has been among the poorest areas in Indiana for many years. The name "East Chicago" may be derived from a place called "Eck Township" on the west side of town, which was part of Clay County until 1836 when it became part of Kane County. Today's Eck Township includes what used to be East Chicago proper. In 1818, John Jacob Astor founded The Western Reserve Company in Indianapolis and named his new town East Chicago after his old home town of Eckertsville, Pennsylvania (now Erie). American claims to this land led to the Indian Wars fought between the United States and Native Americans over control of this area. In 1835, General Anthony Wayne forced all Native Americans out of these lands east of Kankakee River except for those living near Fort Dearborn on what is now Illinois Avenue. This area then became known as “The Indian Territory” and was under US rule until 1850 when it reverted back to Indian control under General David Dixon who renamed it “Indiana Territory” with EastChicago as its capital city. In 1853–54, during Andrew Jackson’s presidency, he ordered military force into this territory following reports that settlers were terrorizing Native Americans there with raids into their homes; troops burned down several villages before withdrawing without causing any injuries or fatalities to any people or property. This event led to increased celebrations throughout Indianapolis because no Indians were hurt or killed – something that would not happen again for many years! After Jackson’s death in 1865, Congress passed legislation giving President Andrew Johnson exclusive authority over allIndian Territory lands northward from Mexico City (including present-day Indiana), including East Chicago; however Johnson did not follow through with this order and instead placed eastern Illinois within newly created Indiana State government headed by Governor Daniel Houghton; however EastChicago continued to function as its own municipality until 1912 when it merged with nearby West Side community Elkhart into one large municipality known today as Elkhart County.[2] By 1860 total native occupancy had dwindled below 10%[3] while white settlement had grown rapidly due primarily to agriculture but also via purchases by Mennonite missionaries fleeing religious persecution in Germany during that era[4]. As early as 1861 census records show that only 7 families lived in Eckerville compared to 155 residents living at Plainfield Landing downstream across Kankakee River[5][6]. The first post office established at Eckerville was opened on October 9th 1863[7] by Wm Barnes & Co.; later renamed Eastern Post Office [8]. At first mail was delivered only twice a week but soon became every day! A stage line service ran between Eckerville and Plainfield Landing starting November 12th 1863 running once per day stopping at various locations along route including: Crystal City (Elkhart), Goshen,[9], LaPorte ($1 fare), Merrillville ($1 fare), White Sands $2 fares)and finally Gary ($3 fare).[10][11] On December 1st 1865 Elmira Daily Democrat published an article headlined “Mail Gains Speed From Oldest Village On Lake Michigan Endorsed By Postmaster” reporting:

Their muffler was designed to protect firearms owners fromdB (disease) and other projectiles entering their hearing. It remains one of the most popular types of firearm ear plug today. The company continued to make shooters ear plugs throughout the years, until it merged with another company in 1984. At that time, all shooter ear plugs were made with an unknown plastic material that degraded over time. In recent years, there has been renewed interest in these type of ear plugs as they offer a unique level of protection against noise pollution and other sources of annoyancewhile you are firing your gun.

In recent years, however, EastChicago has experienced a rebirth with new businesses starting up and population growth continuing. Over half of all residents are employed in some form of business or industry.
In 1814, East Chicago was one of the first towns in Indiana to be founded. The town was named after its location on the east bank of the Chicago River. The town quickly became a transportation and trade center for farmers in the area. In 1825, East Chicago formed a government with a unicameral legislature and an executive council. In 1827, the town became part of the new state of Illinois.
