In 1916-17, Dyer was home to one half dozen American Legion posts and their families during World War I when America entered into World War I with Germany as her adversary; all troops living within 1/2 mile Of US military installations were exempted from paying taxes while serving out their terms or being discharged early under wartime bonds). Dyer was a small town in Indiana, until the early 1800s. It was founded by John Dyer in 1799. The first post office was established in 1802. In 1814, Dyer voters elected George Washington as their president. The townspeople built a gristmill and sawmill in 1816 and1825 respectively. In 1833, Dyer residents voted to become a city. By 1830, the population of Dyer had reached 1,000 people. The city grew rapidly and by 1840 it had an estimated population of 4,500 people. However, due to heavy immigration from Ireland during this time period and other causes (such as slavery), the population of Dyer decreased over the next few decades before reaching its peak at around 7,000 people in 1860. English speaking residents made up the majority of the city through the late 1800s; however Irish-American residents continued to inhabit Dyer until about 1920 when it became an all-Italian community again%. After World War II ended with Victory over Japan's atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6th 1945, many Japanese American citizens were forced out of their homes by U.S authorities following Operation Streamline which targeted any Japanese Americans living east of the Mississippi River in states such as Indiana and Illinois . Many Japanese Americans who remained were confined to camps located near Joplin Missouri for several years after that event; however some managed to flee those camps via underground routes or secret tunnels into Canada . Upon liberation from prison camp policies by General Douglas MacArthur , many Japanese American veterans returned home with little or no compensation – instead they received just property titles which conferred only limited rights above ground while still subject to discrimination both inside and outside their homes communities . As a result of domestic policy decisions resulting from Operation Wet blanket/Surge , many single women children—particularly those born between 1942-1945 within one year after Pearl Harbor —were taken into government custody during that time period because they were deemed “ legitimate applicants” for food stamps (now known as welfare) even though they did not live on welfare rolls or have any income above poverty line ; these so-called “Welfare Mothers” are commonly referred to as “Dyers” since much like their namesake town located within central Indiana – whose citizens also responded enthusiastically to his call for volunteers during World War I – many individuals throughout centralIndiana mobilized soon thereafter among friends & neighbors alike (& later local papers)1 John Aiken Dyer Mayor at large 1933–1948
