IGT Foods Corporation () acquired Sutherlin Enterprises Incorporated () during 2006 for $2 billion (). This made IGT America's second largest private food company behind Kraft Foods Group (). In early 2007, IGT announced plans to close its headquarters located within blocks of downtown Indianapolis due to increasing competition from Amazon Web Services (.com) . However, later that year IGT announced plans to reopen its headquarters inside what are now Verizon Wireless grounds adjacent to FirstEnergy Stadium (). Dyer, Indiana is a town in Johnson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The name "Dyer" comes from Jonathan Dyer and his brother John who operated a store there in 1813. The first settler in what is now Dyer was Nicholas Neely who arrived in 1811. He built a cabin on the banks of the White River. A post office called Neelyville was established in 1814, but it failed to take off and was discontinued in 1815. In 1818, Daniel Boone came through this area on his way to become an outlaw and he stopped at Neely's cabin for lunch before continuing on his journey southward. On July 10, 1826, James Cushing founded Greenfield Township which included most of present-day Dyer township. In 1840 David Dixon set up a mill hereabouts which prospered until it burned down in 1863 after being wrecked by a flood upstream; this event helped start the current commercial development around that time around milepost 27 on US-27W near present day Kendallville (the Dixon Mill Site). When the Union Army evacuated Fort Dearborn during the American Civil War – as did much of Indiana – many families went west along with them including some of those already living in what would become Dyer Township including Joshua Berryman and his family who had plans to plant corn near their home on White River Road just east of today's town limits (it wasn't till 1945 when they actually got around to doing so) - Abram Ziegler also started out life as one of those early settlers hereabouts before moving further north eventually coming ashore into Dearborn Township where he died about 1925 having made himself quite successful as an agriculturalist - even going so far as developing what is now known as "Ziegler's Corn Field".
Dyer was founded in 1829 by John Dyer and his wife, Martha. The town originally consisted of only a few houses and is now home to over 20,000 people. It was the site of the first successful cotton gin in Indiana. The town also played an important role in the history of the Indiana statehood movement.
