In 1898, Lieutenant George Wetherbee became captain and served until 1901 when he was replaced by Lieutenant John Aynesworth who served until 1903 when he resigned due to illness. On January 1, 1904, Lieutenant Charles Hotten took over as lieutenant colonel and continued in that role until September 1st, 1907 when he retired effective date because of age or death. In 1909Captain Fenton Dickson became captain after serving for two years under Captain Dickson’s predecessor Lt Col Charles Hotten Jr.. From 1911 to 1913Captain William Tappan commanded the department while Captains Herbert Ivey and Arthur Ransom were stationed at various points in the state on leave or duty with other departments during this time period. On November 15th 1912 Captain Thomas Ahern became captain of Crown Point police department after serving for six months from July 1910 through October 1912 under Captains James Ewing and John Pemberton respectively while also commanding detachments in Terre Haute (1911), Lafayette (1912), Hammond (1913) and Peru Junction (1914). Under Captains Ahern and Hotten a new jail was built which was completed in 1915 following plans by Drury & Sons Engineers of NoblesvilleIndiana which consisted of a three story brick building with several buildings on top including aanger hall/cafeteria/theater/police station with an attached garage used as an office space for detectives etc.. The jail held up well but it is said that it had no air conditioning which caused some problems such as tuberculosis cases going untreated... On October 25th 1917 Captain Harry Breslin assumed command of crown point department after having been commander of Terre Haute PD since 1916 when Maj Gen Clarence Kelley relieved him due topolitical differences with Governor Elmer Gantry.. At his appointment Breslin stated "I have always felt very confident about my abilities as captain" ..Breslin was succeeded by Sgt Maurice Leone from 1919-1920 thru 1922 thru 1926 thru 1930 thru 1934 During this time period there were 2 sergeants named Leone each year mayor would appoint one sergeant for 4 year term beginning on May 1st During World War II service began again on December 6th 1942 with Lt Colonel Edwin Pritchard taking over command from Lt Colonel Harry Breslin effective date... After World War II service ended on September 30th 1946 with Lt Colonel Edwin Pritchard retiring effective date because of age or death...Following retirement Major General Lucius Noyes took over command leading the force until his retirementin 1951
Crown Point is a community located in the Miami Township, Johnson County, Indiana. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Crown Point is a small town with a tightly knit community spirit and close-knit familial relationships. It has a rich history dating back to 1815 when the land that makes up today's Crown Point was part of what was known as Fort Dearborn. In 1825, General Harrison purchased 4,000 acres of land in present-day Crown Point from Nicholas Myron for $5 per acre. At first it seemed like an impossible task to build anything on such limited acreage but with hard work and dedication over many years they became one of the most successful communities in central Indiana. The original settlers were farmers and their families who grew corn, beans, potatoes and other crops. They also raised livestock which helped contribute to their economy until the early 1900s when automobiles began arriving in greater numbers and changed all of those activities once again. Today there are several businesses that provide essential services to residents including health care, retail stores and restaurants as well as two high schools: Crownpoint High School (founded in 1907) and Southridge High School (founded in 1909). Crownpoint has always been an important center for education for its citizens; both boys and girls have finishing degrees from local colleges or universities since before World War II. There are now several professional forces working in Crownpoint - some that exploit its resources while others take advantage of its unique location providing excellent opportunities for advancement within their fields In recent years many new homes have been built just outside of town limits making it possible for even more people to call Crownpoint home

Crown Point was founded by Nicholas-Jacques de Crownpoint on December 3, 1814 as the colony of Fort Dearborn. It became a town on May 10, 1836. The current mayor is Steve Ligon and the City Council is made up of Mayor Ligon, Councilwoman Pamela Akins (D), Councilman Jeff Spriggs (R), and Mayor Pro Tem Donny McNeely (D). The first European to visit what is now Porter County was French explorer Pierre Marquette in 1692. In 1763, when George Washington's army reached the area that would become Crown Point, he ordered Major Robert Rogers to explore it for possible settlement. After several failed attempts due to hostile Indian presence, Rogers finally arrived at Crown Point on July 6, 1764 with his three companies of Rangers under Lieutenant Colonel John Smith. He discovered both freshwater and salt water resources here which led to his naming the region "Crownpoint." One of crownpoint's earliest businesses was gristmill operation by General David Thompson in 1775; this mill still stands today and grinds corn into flour for local residents and others in the community. The first school in crownpoint opened in 1800; it was later renamed 'Stroud High School'. In 1811–12 a large brick courthouse was built; it served as court house until 1893 when an new courthouse replaced it. From 1865 until 1967 crownpoint had its own post office which continued until1993 when it merged with Indianapolis' post office In 1886 two brothers named John Whelan started a grocery store called Whelan's Grocery & Feed Store located at 4th Street & State Road 51st Avenue; this store supplied groceries for people living near downtown Indianapolis while they built their business into an empire that lasted until 1984 when it closed down after 25 years of service During World War II many civilians were displaced due to combat between Axis Germany & Japan but were eventually able to return home after Victory over Japan in 1945 After V-E Day public demonstrations took place throughout America demandingarations from Germany including compensation for losses suffered during WWII This led to passing of The GI Bill granting college degrees to veterans who serve our country
