Crown Point is located on the eastern bank of the Wabash River and on its north side is the confluence of the Wabash and Erie Rivers. It was settled by German colonists in 1809. The town began togrow rapidly in the early 20th century as businesses moved from Chicago to Crown Point for cheap labor. However, during World War II most businesses moved out of Crown Point because it was too dangerous to continue operation in wartime Germany. Today, Crown Point remains a bedroom community with many businesses closed due to low enrollment or difficulty finding employees. Crown Point has two schools: one high school and one middle school. The high school offers classes from ninth through 12th grades while the middle school provides instruction from 7th through 8th grade. There are also several churches and a few stores in Crown Point which provide services such as groceries, banking, repairs/maintenance etcetera

Crown Point is a town in Putnam County, Indiana, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Crown Point is part of the Indianapolis–Gary, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by General John Wayne in 1827 as a small community on the banks of the Wabash River. In 1851, it became the county seat of Putnam County. Crown Point was named for George Washington Crown and his family who owned land in what is now Crown Point. Crown Point had a post office from 1831 to 1881. The first school in Crown Point opened in 1830. In 1862, King's College (now Eastern Illinois University) moved to Crownpoint and began offering instruction there as well. In 1865, an act passed by the state legislature changed crown point's status from a county seat to a incorporated village with voting privileges and its own fire department. A new courthouse was erected on Main Street in 1870 and served as both county courthouse and village hall until it burned down in 1913. The first residents of crown point were primarily farmers who grew corn, wheat, potatoes and other vegetables for local markets or sold their produce door-to-door during summertime sales fairs which continued until about 1925 when those activities were replaced by social gatherings that include dances and dinners held at various homes around town during late May through early October called "Festivals". In 1951, following Orr v Orr (1890), all Indians within 10 miles of any white settlement were required to move to Indian Territory under laws passed at that time which limited white migration into Indian Territory (the area now known as Indiana). As a result of this relocation policy many rural Indians living near western Indiana died due to disease or starvation while most easternIndiana natives who wanted remained lived within their respective jurisdictions.-Families abandoned their homes right before they were surveyed so no registers have been preserved documenting these events
