Crown Point is a small town in southern Indiana, located on the banks of the Raisin River. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. In 1814, a group of Englishmen landed on the Raisin River and began trading with local Indian tribes. In 1840, Colonel James Caldwell purchased 320 acres from Fenton for $2,000. He built a log cabin on this property which served as the nucleus for Caldwell's Colony of Indians (later renamed "Crown Point"). By 1850, Crown Point had reached its peak population with over 100 residents. However, by 1861 the community had shrunk to 10 due to constant warfare between Indian nations and settlers; this declined further when Fort Knox was built nearby in 1871). When Fort Knox closed in Battery Park in 1902 after years of service as an artillery battery during World War I – one of many fortifications constructed along both sides of the river – most people left crown point for good. Only a few remain today; some have returned (e.g., CGC) while others have found new homes elsewhere (e.g., Grange Hill). There has been continuous growth since then; by 2000 there were over 150 people living here full-time not only within crown point but also within 4 miles radius outside of it! Crown Point, Indiana is a town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,640 at the 2010 census. Crown Point is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first settler in Crown Point was John Pritchard in 1824. He and his family moved to what is now Crown Point from Hartford, Connecticut. By 1830 there were 10 families living in Crown Point. The first school was built in 1833 and classes began on October 15 that year. In 1836 the plat for Crown Point Township was approved by the state government and the township was organized on November 3 of that year with 30 lots provided for settlers. In 1840 David Ladds set up a gristmill which became one of the largest mills in Kosciusko County and produced flour, sugar, bacon and other goods until it closed its doors in 1903. Over time various businesses opened within Crownpoint including a grocery store (1883), post office (1905), druggist (1910), barbershop (1912), bakery (1915) and car dealership (1920). The first courthouse building located at 5th Street and State Road 7A was completed in 1861 but it burned down within months of being built due to an arson attempt by some local men who thought it would be valuable lumber for their new home development farther east on State Road 7A near today's Village Green shopping center. A new courthouse building designated as " Courthouse Park" was completed off 5th Street south of 2nd Avenue in 1924-25 after $5,000 worth of donations from citizens helped finance its construction which included a gymnasium/ auditorium/ ballroom/ playground addition plus support services such as water system installation and landscaping etc... It served as the town's court house until 1955 when Kosciusko County consolidated with neighboring Warsaw Township making Crownpoint an unincorporated community once again... Today most people celebrate patriotic events such as Fourth of July fireworks displays or Memorial Day ceremonies at nearby Greenwood Cemetery where artillery during World War II stored munitions before being unloaded into Lake Michigan
Crown Point was founded by the Potawatomi in 1785. The settlement grew rapidly and by 1810, Crown Point had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1812, the Potawatomi were forced to cede their land to the United States as part of the Treaty of Fort Dearborn. The town was renamed Crown Point after its most important site within the fort.
