Crown Point is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana. It was founded in 1824 as a post office and has since been home to several gun barrel manufacturing companies, including Winchester Repeating Arms Company, action sports company Benelli Arca, and IMI Firearms Manufacturing Inc. Crown Point's history with firearms dates back to at least 1795 when the first shots were fired in what is now Crown Point by Captain John Smith during the French and Indian War. The town grew rapidly due to its military significance and became an important center for guns and ammunition production throughout the 1800s. In 1915, King George V of England made Crown Point one of his ten British advisor cities; this honor gave it status as a major firearms production center in America. By 1925, Crown Point had become part of the United States and its munitions industry flourished under American economic development policies that favored American manufacturers over foreign manufacturers.
