Crown Point is a town in Wexford County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1814 by James King and others as a post office on the site of present-day Crown Point Village. The first settler, John Yates, arrived in 1818 and named his farm "King's Grant." In 1825, after Indian Wars had ended with the Treaty of Fort Wayne, King donated land to be developed into what is now Crown Point. He also built an sawmill and gristmill on the now-abandoned village site. In 1827–28, Andrew Jordon platted Crown Point village from east to west and named it for himself; he had been born in Wexford County about that time. The first store opened in Crown Point in 1830; during that year also came the first black person to live in this community (John Auld). By 1840, when the US Census counted 1,912 residents living within its limits (including those inside present-day CrownPoint Village), Crown Point had become one of the most populous townships in Indiana. A post office called "Crownpoint" was established at Crownpoint on February 2, 1840 by order of Governor James Kiefer; it was discontinued November 30th of that year because no letters were received therefrom. On January 8th 1861 a new post office called "Wexford" was established at Wexford by order of Senator John Sherman Magruder; it continued open until May 15th 1865 when all but two weeks' operations were suspended due to Civil War hostilities between Unionists and Confederates. On October 5th 1865 both offices reopened under Confederate General Robert Ewing with instructions from General George Buell to continue mail service only through slavery until such time as free people could be furnished with adequate transportation facilities for doing so: "No civil or military mail will be received beyond this point". On December 4th 1865 both offices reopened under Union control effective January 6th 1966.. After more than three years out of action due to resumed hostilities resulting from President Johnson's executive order creating Reconstruction Arkansas Post Office Districts within each state (Ewing ordered closure because troops were quartered there), both crownpoints reopened on July 10TH 1969 following recommencement of regular mail services between Chicago and Indianapolis which greatly relieved local postal resources during these times.. As part of same initiative efforts Lincoln Logging Company leased government owned land adjacent to town limits near current day Market Street for their own private logging operations which has since destroyed muchbarn property extending along Market street

Crown Point was founded on October 15, 1814 as a post office by Major John Crown and his wifeSusan. On December 5, 1815, the town was incorporated as a village by an act of the state legislature. In 1824, the name of the town was changed to Crown Point after General Andrew Jackson's victory in the Battle of New Orleans. The post office remained open until it closed on November 30, 1893 due to financial problems.
