Crawfordsville is a small town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Crawfordsville is part of the Cass County seat. The first mention of Crawfordsville was in 1793 when General Anthony Wayne and his army passed through on their way to war with France. In 1827, James Crawfords settled in what is now Crawfordsville and developed a small cotton trade. He also became involved with politics and served as a local magistrate from 1837 to 1840. In 1848, James Crawford donated land to form the town square and named it after him. However, due to lack of funding, the town didn't take off until the early 20th century. One of the earliest businesses in Crawfordsville was an insurance office which opened in 1851. It was later replaced by a grocery store which operated from 1865 to 1870. The store closed because of low sales during World War I but reopened two years later as an auto dealership. It closed again in 1925 but reopened two years later as an ammunition depot which continued operation until 1957 when it closed again due to economic reasons. In 1925, Don Hutson founded US Steel Corporation located in nearby Gary,Indiana; this led to development around downtown Crawfordsville including new housing developments such as Hutson Place and Midtown Plaza that still exist today despite changesover time (most notably during the 1990s when many factories vacated). It wasn't until 1984 that crawfordvillians voted on forming their own school district (initially known as Cass Community School District No 2) which would eventually become Cass Township Schools District No 9-10 north-central Indiana In recent decades there has been development around downtown including new housing developments such as Hutson Place and Midtown Plaza that still exist today despite changesover time (most notably during the 1990s when many factories vacated). Additionally there has been construction of a library building on Main Street just east of downtown called "The Library" which opened its doors on September 25th 2006

Crawfordsville, Indiana is a small city in the U.S. state ofIndiana and the county seat of Howard County. The population was 8,746 at the 2010 census. Crawfordsville is located on the banks of the Susquehanna River, about 25 miles (40 km) east of Indianapolis and 30 miles (48 km) west of Chicago. The first permanent settler in what would become Crawfordsville was Nicholas Crawfords, who arrived in 1814 from England. He founded a gristmill on the river and built a home near present-day Elmira for his family and their slaves. In 1835, he sold his interest in the mill to James Wiltcher and moved to Springfield Township where he operated another gristmill until 1840 when he started an agricultural store at what is now downtown Crawfordsville. In 1851, Wiltcher donated land to build a schoolhouse which opened in 1860 as Crawford Elementary School. Today, Crawford Elementary remains one of the most popular schools in town with students from grades Pre-K through 12th grade attend classes there each day during morning hours while adults learn about local history at its own museum during lunchtime or afternoon session; also available are special programs for middle schoolers and high school seniors throughout the academic year which offer hands-on learning opportunities withhistoric artifacts or interesting stories about local businesses that have been passed down through families over time!
