Crawfordsville is a town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. Crawfordsville has been home to an armory and rifle range since 1853. The first gun target in Crawfordsville was made by George Prentice in 1853 on a lot he owned on the east side of town. By 1881, there were twenty-one gun targets in Crawfordsville proper and seventeen located elsewhere within town limits. In 1895, the Crawford Armory opened, becoming one of the largest armories in America at that time. At that time guns were still being bought and sold by individuals rather than being produced centrally like they are now. Gun ranges continued to be open until 1949 when they closed due to financial difficulties.

Crawfordsville is a small town in central Indiana. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Crawfordsville is located on the eastern edge of the city of Terre Haute and is bordered by the towns of Noblesville to the south, LaPorte to the west, and Harrison to the north. The name “Crawfordsville” was given to it by General George Washington in 1765 when he rode through this area on his way from Fort Pitt to campaign against Britain in North America. The first settler in Crawfordsville was Nicholas Crawfords who arrived there in 1814. His family built a log cabin on what is now State Street. A post office was established here in 1837, and named for Nicholas Crawfords only child – Anna Maria (Anna M.) Crawfords. In 1841, John Augustus Crawford purchased land east of State Street from Nicholas and moved his family here. He built a home that still stands today on Indian Road East between Main and Second Streets. The community platting process began early in this century with incorporation papers being filed May 6th, 1907! By October 7th, 1907 all but two blocks had been plotted out with homes beginning to be erected that fall including many Angell-designed homes which were later replaced by updated versions which can still be seen around town today! During World War I, many local men chose not to serve their country because they felt it would conflict with their personal finances; however most returned after hostilities ended some months later than expected due to new government regulations governing retirement benefits! With such an active community during its earliest years services such as schools (King’s School became one of Terre Haute’s first public schools), churches (First Baptist Church became one of Indiana’s largest denominations), grocery stores (a Hudson Grocery Store opened soon after),auto mechanics/repair shops( three were eventually located before closure)and laundromats were all prevalent and continue into present day days even though they are no longer needed or popular among residents as technology has taken over!. Like other smalltowns throughout America during this time period life expectancy varied depending upon economic opportunities then as well as lifestyle choices made by those living there such as alcohol use which increased significantly during prohibition era due largely to low wages earned outside service industry jobs available then also availability/costly black marketeers providing various types of substances including morphine! In terms of education opportunities availible at that time public school systems either operated independently or within larger districts like Terre Haute while private academies existed for more affluent residents; however King’s School became one ofIndiana’s first high school students graduated from here starting Spring Term 1909!! One notable exception was Harrison High School which closed its doors for good following World War II having become too costly both financially and physically housing large numbers Of students along with equipment having been lost or destroyed during war effort!). Today very few people remember what these schools looked like back then but everyone knows about those iconic Angell Homes!!!
