Crawfordsville, Indiana is a small town in the west central part of the United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Crawfordsville is first settled in 1819 and is named after Colonel John Crawfurd, an officer in the Indiana militia during the War of 1812. The community was incorporated as a village in 1868 and became a town in 1903. It is located on the east side ofriver Ripple Rapids, about 40 miles (64 km) south of Indianapolis. The river forms most of Crawfordsville's border with Ottawa County to the northwest, and with Vanderburgh County to the southeast. The city has a total area of just over 2 square miles (5 km2). According to the 2010 census, its racial makeup was 94% White, 3% African American, 0% Native American, and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino residents make up 5% of the population. As one of only three townships within Vanderburgh County (the others being Greenwood Village and Peru), Crawfordsville has long been an agricultural center for its surrounding rural communities. Agriculture still dominates much local life today – many citizens are self-employed farmers – but there are also several professional businesses based in town including two hospitals and one health care system. There are also numerous small shops and restaurants throughout town which contribute significantly to its GDP per capita ranking as #7th best among US villages with over 1 million people according to Forbes Magazine’s 2018 list .

Crawfordsville is a town in Knox County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,866 at the 2010 census. Crawfordsville was founded in 1836 by General John Crawfords and his wife Sarah. It is named after Crawfordsville, Kentucky, where General John served as a captain in the American Revolution. The first post office in Crawfordsville was established on February 14, 1836. The present site of the town was laid out by James Kenedy and others in 1854. The first store was built on Main Street in 1865. In 1902 the original Works Progress Administration (WPA) construction project added a new wing to the courthouse which served as headquarters for many years until it burned down in 1966. Crawford College changed its name to Indiana University Bloomington in 1913 and then to IU Bloomington School of Arts and Sciences in 1965 before becoming IU Bloomington University again in 2014. Crawfordsville has been home to the Knox County High School boys' basketball team since 1907 and girls' volleyball team since 1978; both teams are now members of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). In 1915 Crawford had a population of 2,000 people; by 2000 that number had grown to over 11,000 residents with more than 100 businesses located throughout downtown not only during school hours but also during lunchtime and evening hours when many people were employed outside of work or were taking time off for Christmas vacation or New Year's Day celebrations. Many students who attend college now commute long distances from their homes into Crawfordsville so that they may have easy access to all aspects of campus life including shopping options available on campus as well as opportunities for extracurricular activities such as music programs, fraternities/sisters organizations etc..
