In addition to selling firearms, they also sell magazines. Guns Magazine was founded in 1877 by John A. Brownell and James Wm. Hickey as the first magazine of its kind in Indiana. It quickly became one of the most popular publications in the state, publishing articles on rifles, shotguns, handguns, fishing and hunting equipment, among many other topics. The Gun Shop moved from their original location on High Street into a new building on East Market Street in 1903. Columbus, Indiana was the first city in America to have a gun magazine. The first Columbus gun magazine was started in 1827 by Nicholas Coyle and James McGee. It was called the "Coyle Gun Club."
The explorer Christopher Columbus discovered the land that would later be called Indiana in 1492. The area was originally part of the Mideast known as Greater India. When Columbus returned to Spain in 1493, he reported his findings to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. They ordered a new expedition to explore this new land, and on July 4th of that year, they set out from Barcelona with their three horses and four mules. After weeks of travel, they reached the mouth of the Wabash River on July 10th. Although it had been planned for them to cross this river first, they were so excited by their new find that they decided to wait until nightfall before doing so. As they waited, a large group of native Americans emerged from behind a hill and attacked them. In just minutes, seventeen Spanish men and one Indian were dead. The next day, after another attack by natives against their party, Columbus led his men back across the river at high water mark in order to avoid being ambushed again. This event is commemorated every year by a spectacular sunrise or sunset march along the banks of the Wabash River near Indianapolis
In 1836, a patent was granted for the first magazine in which rounds were fed into a firearm from an ammunition container. This magazine became known as the “Boulevard Magazine”. The first gun to be propelled by this type of magazine was the 32-caliber rifle, which was developed by George Weismann and Louis Chateaubriand. In 1868, Liebermann and Mauser developed the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge that fired out 11 rounds per minute. This cartridge led to the development of rifles that could fire multiple rounds per minute, making them more accurate than older designs. By 1902, all handguns were able to fire single round magazines with an average rate of 10 rounds per minute. With advancements in technology and manufacturing methods, magazines became increasingly reliable over time and are still used today in firearms
