The name derived from Christopher Columbus, who had set out on his exploration of America in 1492. The first settler to arrive in Columbus was Elias Boudinot, who arrived on July 4, 1853. He named the village after himself and others associated with his explorations into America. At that time Ohio lay to the south while Indiana lay to the north and east; so Columbus became known as "the First City." In 1865, when land sales began for what would become downtown Indianapolis, merchants from Columbus saw an opportunity and purchased some adjoining land for $1 per acre (about $60 per square mile). By 1887 James Aiken had built a large cotton gin on State Road 9 near what is now Monument Circle While still under construction Aiken's son-in-law erected a large white wooden sign reading: "Columbus Cotton Gin". This led to increased business activity at this early stage of development which continue until present day. Today there are several commercial buildings including: a post office (1893), a bank (1912), an insurance agency (1920), a grocery store (1927), a movie theater (1935), and two churches - First Baptist Church founded in 1888 and Stated Baptist Church founded in 1901 - both located downtown between 3rd Street South and 5th Street South across from Interstate 465/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard. Downtown also contains many small businesses including: a beauty salon (), laundry (), butchers (), pet stores ()], sandwich shops (),> karate studios (),> breweries (). There are also several residential structures such as apartments ()],> houses ();> hotels ();>]

CPC was a series of cloth breeches that were worn over pants to help prevent dirt and dust accumulation on the riflesights and barrels while hunting or fighting. Another common piece of weaponry apparel at this time was Helmets/Beards/Masks (HBMs) which helped protect against enemy fire while hunting small game or unarmed prey with bows or arrows.HBMs became more popular after 1815 when handguns began to become more prevalent in society

This caused a lot of conflict between these groups of people because they each hoped to be given their own little corner of heaven on earth! Many people believed that Jesus Christ would come back soon so they decided to move away from England or France where they felt unsafe living under religious persecution. When James Kappey arrived in 1788 with his group of Swedish immigrants, things changed dramatically because he believed that God had called him to Indian Territory – which included current-dayIndiana!Kappey founded what is todayknown as Fort Wayne while others founded Lafayette (currently Evansville) based on their beliefs about Jesus’ return being imminent!
The first Europeans to visit Columbus, Indiana were the Spanish on October 12, 1524. They named the area after Christopher Columbus, who had discovered America in 1492. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Columbus was a Catholic mission founded by Father Fernando de la Cueva and Father José de Alvarado on November 3, 1690. The Mission was abandoned in 1815 because of Indian hostilities.
