Chesterton is a small town in Logansport County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Logansport–Kokomo Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name Chesterton comes from the biblical figure Jesus Christ who preached in that community. Chesterton is located on State Route 49 north of Kokomo and east of Fort Wayne. It has a post office with ZIP code 62423 and two churches: First Baptist Church and ChristChurch United Methodist Church. Chesterton was founded by George Washington Smith in 1825 as a dry goods store and post office called Smithsville. In 1829 it became an incorporated village named after Arthur Ashe, an American lawyer who had come to Indiana to help organize the state militia during the Indian Wars of 1812-1814. The village had six stores, one school (grades 1-6), four residences, three businesses viz.: a wagon shop, a grocery store, and a tannery; twenty-one citizens; one trustee; one sheriff; $5 per capita income tax assessment for adults (18 years or over)

Chesterton, Indiana is located in the eastern part of the United States and is bordered by Illinois to the south, Michigan to the west, and Kentucky to the north. The population was 9,827 as of 2010. chesterton indiana history began with land purchases made by James H. Dixon in 1836. Dixon was a surveyor who had been hired by General Harrison to map out Indian Territory for the United States government. In 1835, he purchased land from David Herrin near present-day Fort Wayne,Indiana. The purchase included 3 tracts totaling 56 square miles (164 km2), all of which lay within what is now part of northwest Indiana. The first settlers in Chesterton were Methodist Episcopalians who arrived in 1837 and built a chapel on what is now Taylor Road. They soon after sold their land back to Dixon for $1 per acre (0.50 ha). This activity set off a pattern that would be repeated over time: successive landowners would sell their land back to Dixon for a price that ranged from $1 per acre (0) up to $10 per acre (4 ha). In 1840, John Sibley moved into Chesterton from Ohio with his family and began purchasing lots along present-day Thames Drive and Washington Avenue. He also developed what is now known as Sibley Park on property he acquired between Thames Drive and Washington Avenue. In 1841, Sibley married Jane Lyon and they started living on farmstead located east ofpresent-day Elm Street between State Road 465 and Riverside Drive today known as Lyon Place/Sibley Place/Lyon Manor Plantation/. The most important event at this time happened when John Sibley donated some 800 acres (30 km2) including present-day Chesterton Township for public school purposes which became Chesterton Union High School District No 13 on September 15th 1863 under Superintendent George Wiegandt after failed efforts by Jepson & Son Company’s agent Jepson Averill Toombs to get state help build a high school in nearby Elkhart County without getting state permission first or raising money through private donations like those made by James H Dixon earlier that year! Mr Toombs had initially offered US$5 per capita but it was turned down because no one wanted schools built where they could see them! Mrs Toombs later said “We did not want our children coming among us without proper education so we subscribed ourselves” After two years of wrangling Mr Wiegandt got state approval November 1st 1865 for High School District No 13 which opened its doors on December 2nd 1865 named after Judge Augustus Kelley JP!
Chesterton, Indiana was founded in 1827 by George Washington Carver. The city is named for the British thinker and philosopher A. E. Henty.
