In 1887, the first gun club in Chesterton was organized. The club met at the Soldiers' Home and fired rifles into a target. Up until that time, shooting had been limited to soldiers on parade or in reserve. The club's first president was Captain John H. Sheeran of the 8th Indiana Infantry Regiment and it is said that he helped found the club because he wanted to be able to shoot with his own rifle at a competition. Gunclub members enjoyed using their guns for target practice and eventually formed their own shooting societies which competed against each other throughout Indiana. In 1912, they held their second annual meeting and decided to change the name from "Chesterton Rifle Club" to "Indiana Gun Club". By 1915, the Indiana Gun Club had built a two-story building on State Road 507 in Chesterton that served as its clubhouse until it burned down in 1978. The building still stands today and is used as a storage annex for local businesses.

Chesterton is a small town in Butler County, Indiana. The population was 3,836 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The community was founded by John Chesterton in 1853 as a farming village on the edge of a large tract of forested land that he had bought from David Dixon. chesterton named his new settlement for him, and it became one of the most important agricultural centers in Butler County. In 1875, after John's death, his widow donated land to the town for public school purposes, and construction began on the first Chesterton High School building in 1876. The school was finished in 1880 and served as the center of local education until it closed in 1984. The Chesterton Library opened in 1907 and remains one of the largest public libraries in Butler County today. The library has been home to many famous authors including Fanny Burney and Ezra Pound. In 1984, when its parent company went bankrupt, Chesterton Township developed a plan to sell off all but four buildings within the township (excluding its historic courthouse) to create an open-air mall called "The Commons". However this plan never came to fruition because of financial instability within that company; instead it reverted back to ownership by Chesterton Township before being mothballed again during 2008-2009 recession conditions caused by nationwide economic downturns throughout America resulting from global economic pressures brought about by the Recession itself

But recently something interesting has started happening in this sleepy corner of central Indiana: people are starting to come back to Chesterton! In fact, there seems to be a trend where people from other nearby communities start moving back into Chesterton once they learn about it and see how much fun it still is to live hereabouts! And even though these newcomers might not have had any direct connection with GeorgeChesterton (or his business), they have certainly made an impact on the town’s history by contributing their time, knowledge and money – all of which has helped keep things ticking along smoothly for everyone involved! So why did this happen? After all, what possible reason could there be for such a long-standing stagnation? Well, one potential explanation could be that people simply forgot about Chesterton altogether – after all, it wasn’t really doing anything special anymore. But if that’s the case then it would be rather sad because although this place may not be very exciting now compared to other places around central Indiana (especially those located closer to Chicago or Indianapolis), it sure does hold its own against any competition! So whatever the reason for Backin’Itasca’s resurgence may be (and we can only guess!), we should definitely take advantage of it while we still can!
Chesterton was born in 1874, in the town of Chesterton, Indiana. He was a Jesuit priest and philosopher who lived most of his life in England. While living in England, he wrote several books and wrote articles on philosophical topics. Some of these articles were published in the British journal Mind. In 1940, Chesterton died at the age of 84 also living in England.
