Chesterton is a small town in Terre Haute County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,719 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Chesterton community was founded in 1837 by Welsh immigrants, and it began to grow rapidly after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1847. The community was named for Arthur Conan Doyle, author of "Sherlock Holmes". In 1907, a Baptist church was built in the community and became one of the most popular churches in town. In 1911, there were only 121 people living in Chesterton when Prohibition began to be repealed; by 1919, the population had increased to over 1,000. In 1937-38 an addition were made to Park View Drive which led from State Street east to what is now Third Street. This consisted of a park with playgrounds and basketball courts for children as well as two large houses (now used as businesses). At its peak during prohibition, Chesterton had around 1000 residents who consumed upwards of 50% alcohol—the highest percentage anywhere within Illinois or Indiana due to state law at that time banning any alcoholic beverage except beer and liquor stores. By 1951-52 however alcohol consumption had decreased significantly due to changes in local drinking habits brought on by television advertising campaigns targeting adults rather than childrenish intoxication levels typical during prohibition days. Today only about 10% from original population remain while many have moved away or left poverty stricken areas for moreProsperous suburbs close to major shopping malls such as Peoria or Wheaton IL. Chesterton has been hosting several annual festivals throughout its history including Folk Festival (July), Ribfest (August), Shakespeare Festival (October), Hiking & Fishing Festival (November), Christmas Festivities (December) and Machine Shop Days/Fairs/Recycling Days/Cooking Days/(eighth weekend every month). These events are typically attended by various organizations including local schools groups along with their parents or guardians who help run these events which provide some much needed income for ourlocal economy while also providing opportunities for citizens to get involved with their government through public service projects like setting up booths during festival week or helping clean up civic upturns following elections

Chesterton is a town in Noble County, Indiana, United States. The population was 4,724 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the 19th century English philosopher and writer Arthur Chesterton. The first settler in what is now Chesterton was John Green who arrived in 1812. He built a cabin on the current site of the town in 1814. The first store opened in 1829 and then became a city post office from 1836 to 1907. In 1905, the town had 586 residents and it increased to 6,834 by 1970 when it annexed part of Warsaw Township. The modern-day heart of Chesterton is located around Elm Street and Park Avenue where there are several dozen buildings built between 1870 and 1930 including a bank (1892), an ice cream parlor (1910), a grocery store (1915), two hotels (1925 & 1929), three churches (1900-1925), six small businesses plus one large business, three schools including one high school (1896-1970) as well as four parks: Elm Park School District No 1 playground, Elm Park School District No 2 playgrounds, Hampton Woods Recreation Area playground with baseball diamond/softball field/football pitches/size 9 lacrosse nets synthetic turf surface, Heritage Trails golf course which offers 12 holes of Congressional Progression golf with views of Washington D.C., chestertonian Amphitheater with theater seating for up to 350 people inside and out on both levels that opened in 1984 - all are part of the Noble County Schools system which has more than 2600 students enrolled grades Prekindergarten through twelfth grade since its establishment in 1922). Chesterton also has its own post office which opened on October 12th 1888 as "Wabashport". It was moved to its current location on Main Street just east of Center Avenue in 1912 after serving Wabashport for twenty years before that!
Chesterton was born in 1874 in the town of Wellesley, Massachusetts. He attended Wellesley School and then Harvard College where he became a Phi Beta Kappa member. Chesterton began writing poetry at an early age and published his first volume of poems, "The Browning Poems" in 1899. He later worked as a journalist and wrote several books about life in small-town America. In 1934, he published "A Study in Scarlet", an epistolary novel that tells the story of Arthur Conan Doyle's adventures from Sherlock Holmes' point of view. The novel remains popular to this day and has been adapted for stage, television, and radio.
