The early history of Chesterton, Indiana's gun sights begins with the early pioneers who came to the area in the 1800s. The first settlers in this area were farmers and hunters who hunted game in the region. As time passed, these men and women began to settle down and started growing crops and raising livestock. They also gathered wood for firewood and built their own homes from logs that they collected. As Gun Sight History would have it, one of these pioneer families was Mr. & Mrs. James Post from Ohio who immigrated to Chesterton on October 17, 1829. They were among the first people to live in what is now known as Chesterton Township.27 Mr. Post had come looking for land to farm after leaving his home state of Ohio for unknown reasons a few years earlier. He soon realized that he had found what he was looking for when he saw all of the available land in this new community which then consisted of just a few buildings along Main Street between Ninth and Tenth Streets! Mr. Post purchased 4 acres of this property which at that time was a very small farming town! Over time, other pioneers followed suit until by 1840 there were over 20 residents living in what is today known as Chesterton Township! It wasn't until 1849 when another group of German immigrants arrived in Chesterton Township with the hope of starting a new life after escaping persecution back home! This group had ties to Hamburg, Germany so they brought with them some amazing tools and technology as well as their knowledge of engineering which helped improve many aspects of daily life here including transportation! After some initial struggles getting started they quickly became successful entrepreneurs making many improvements to local businesses including John Doe Propsmith's Store which still stands today! It wasn't until 1868 that an ordinance was passed allowing firearms on township property! This allowed citizens more access to self-defense should they become threatened or acted upon by someone not authorized by law!! In 1870 another ordinance repealed Prohibition (the Eighteenth Amendment) making alcohol illegal once again!!! Chesterton is a small town in Indiana. It is located on the banks of the Little Wabash River and has a population of around 350 people. Chesterton was founded in 1853 by John Wesley Chesterton, an Englishman who had settled in this region. The town became popular for its mineral products, such as coal and limestone, which were exported to other parts of the United States. In addition, chestertonian businesses included a grocery store, brewery, post office, schoolhouse and garage. John Wesley Chesterton was born in 1835 in London, England. After studying at Rugby School he returned to America and began his career as an editor with Harper & Brothers in New York City. He soon developed a reputation for being an expert on American politics and culture. In 1886 he published What We Mean by Christianity which helped spread the evangelical message across America. In 1907 he wrote A Tale of Two Cities which exposed the corruption and hypocrisy within London's aristocracy during the Victorian era. In 1919 Chesterton joined forces with H Rider Haggard to pen The Book Thief which tells the story of Johannes Gutenberg (1544-1625), a German inventor who created movable type printing presses that led to the Protestant Reformation. The novel was praised by critics and sold over 100 million copies worldwide. In 1931 he penned A Fable about One Hundred Years from Now which chronicled his thoughts on humanity's future prospects into the 21st century

Chesterton, Indiana is a small town located in Kosciusko County, Indiana. The population was 3,773 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lafayette, IN-CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Chesterton was James Dickey who arrived in 1814. He named his new land "Chesterton." A post office was established in 1816 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1904. According to the 2000 US Census, there were 2,902 people living in Chesterton when it incorporated as a village. As of the 2010 census, that number had decreased to 1,868 people. The population density was 953 people per square mile (312/km²). There were also 271 housing units at an average density of 338 per square mile (136/km²). The racial makeup of Chesterton was 98% White and 2% African American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1%. There are two churches which play an important role within the community: First Presbyterian Church and St John's Episcopal Church both serve as cultural institutions for the residents and offer religious services on weekdays throughout most summer months as well as holiday season celebrations such as Christmas and Easter each year; additionally Holy Cross CatholicChurch offers religious services on Sundays from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend from 9am to 4pm with mass starting at 10am local time each day; while Lutheran church services take place every other Sunday morning from 7:00am until 11am local time with mass starting at 10am local time each day.- Second Baptist church snakes its way around town just past First Presbyterian Church before entering into another business district.- In 1852 James Fenton platted what would become known as Chesterton Village according to plat book #2139 & purchased 5 acres east of present day Main Street.- By 1860 this area encompassed all of what now makes up chesterton village including both sides of Main street between Antioch Road & East Academy Avenue- In 1865 addition 5 more acre plats were filed & by 1870 main street ran east from Antioch Road all the way to South Academy Avenue.- On July 15th 1872 citizens approved incorporation by Ordinance No 1212 & #3118.– This marked the beginning of a long& successful struggle by citizens over taxes which would continue thru out their history culminating with annexation into Kosciusko County by Kosciusko County on November 6th 1907.– Today only a few traces remain visible Of The original Village structure including 2 large brick buildings on either side OF Main Street still standing today along side numerous smaller Sqft buildings which once made up chesterville village– One building still stands desecrated & gutted taking down part Of Its original front facade leaving only its skeleton remaining today-All told there are around 25 Small Sqft Buildings that used To Make Upchesterville Village Now belong To Multiple Organizations Including An Agricultural Society Which Uses Some Of These Buildings For Their Meeting Place., A Playground Which Was Converted Into A Housing Development Called “Homespun” And Another Place Which Used To Be A Pool But Is Now Reserved For Townspeople To Use As Well As Parkland.– Despite This Destruction Most Of What Once stood In chestservillevillage Still remains Todayalbeit With reduced Population Size
