Cedar Lake, Indiana is a town in Morgan County, Indiana, located on the eastern edge of the state. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,955. The first gun target in Cedar Lake was erected by a group of men who came to the area around 1820. The first real gun engagement in Cedar Lake took place on October 12, 1824 when three farmers were shot at by some men called "The Hounds". In 1865, Cedar Lake became part of the newly created Indian Territory and all guns were banned within it. This caused many residents to turn away from firearms and begin using shotguns instead. However, there are stillgun targets in Cedar Lake today that are dedicated to firearm history.

Cedar Lake is a small, unnamed community in Butler County, Indiana. The communities of Cedar Lake and Hebron were consolidated into the current municipality on January 1, 2009. Cedar Lake was laid out in 1853 by James H. Fishburn and named for a large cedar tree located there. The community sprang up around the mill operated by Fishburn and his son John Fishburn. The first post office was established at Cedar Lake in 1854. By 1870, the population of Cedar Lake had reached 100 people. In 1886, a school was built and opened for students from Hebron. By 1907, there were only ten residents living at Cedar Lake; all of whom worked at the local mill or farmsteads. In 1912, the first electricity came to CedarLake when an electric traction line was built between Hebron and Carmel Junction; this permitted newly developed neighborhoods such as Carmel East to be connected with larger towns without having to journey downriver each time they needed power! Today (2018), CedarLake has an estimated population of 506 peopleAn important aspect of early town life was water availability which helped spur development around the mill wheel-houses which still stand today including: Mr & Mrs Fenton’s Cabin The Fenton family ran one of two grist mills in Butler County until it closed in 1909 The other mill did not stay open very long either because it became too saturated with flour from nearby White Sands This left an opening for what would become a vital water source for both communities Mr & Mrs LaFontaine Menard bought land adjacent to White Sands Creek on which they constructed a dam that provided ample water storage Strother’s Store opened on Main Street across from the now defunct menard store in 1904
Cedar Lake was first settled by the Potawatomi in the area now known as Cedar Rapids. The first post office at Cedar Lake was established in 1837, and it remained in operation until 1861. In 1868, a dam was built on the Cedar River to create Cedar Lake. The dam has been used for many purposes over the years, including power generation, water storage, and recreation.
