Cedar Lake is a small, isolated community in Tipton County, Indiana. It was once a thriving fishing and farming town named for the cedar trees that lined its shores. Cedar Lake has seen many changes over the years, but its residents remain fiercely proud of their community and its history. The first settlers to Cedar Lake arrived in 1829. They were led by Isaac Hafer who built a log cabin on the edge of what is now known as Cedar Park. The town began to grow quickly after it became clear that there was plenty of land to be mined and ran sawmills and grist mills. By 1840, Cedar Lake had more than 100 residents and some businesses such as a hotel and grocery store were established. The Panic of 1837 hit Cedar Lake hard, with prices for goods skyrocketing. Many people left the town for greener pastures during this time period. However, many others stuck around to help rebuild following the economic downturn. In 1850, CedarLake had again reached its peak population with over 250 residents living in homes and businesses along the shoreline overlooking the lake or on nearby farms. During prohibition in America, CedarLake experienced its own version of prohibitionism known as "drystan." This era saw heavy drinking by both men and women which caused social unrestrained by law enforcement efforts . However, despite this challenge, most residents remained friendly towards one another; even those who did not drink could still find common ground when it came to fishing or farming interests In 1951-1952 (the early days of decontamination), new communities were established around Indianapolis due to increased demand for housing outside of cities during this time period . One such community was called Gibson Heights which also included parts of present day Tipton County . Although much larger than any other village at this time (it had up to 1,500 residents), Gibson Heights struggled financially until it merged with neighboring townships in 1961 . Glen Burnie Township absorbed Gibson Heights in 2003 ; however , many aspects of that community's culture remain unchanged today

Cedar Lake was named for the red cedar trees that lined its shores. The first people to live in this area were the Potawatomi and their allies, the Delaware Indians. After a period of warfare, the two groups merged in 1795. In 1812, the United States acquired this land from France as part of the Treaty of Chicago. The Lake was used for fishing, hunting and military purposes until it was drained in 1913 by mechanical means.
