Cedar Lake, Indiana is a small town located in the northwestern corner of the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,605 at the 2010 census. Cedar Lake is part of the Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was settled by Germans in 1829 and named Cedar Creek after an old cedar tree that stood in its center. In 1836, the first church was built in Cedar Creek and it remained a religious community until 1951 when it merged with Lafayette to form Lafayette-Cedar Creek Mayorpersonality Incorporated Corporation. The post office at Cedar Creek was established on December 12, 1846, and continued operation until it closed on February 28, 1954. At that time, mail service from Terre Haute began providing service to Cedar Creek residents instead. In 1840s two new homes were built on what is now Vineyard Road: one known as "Homes of God" and another called "Fletcher's Grove". The first store opened in this area in 1847; it was soon replaced by a hotel which served as the first home of Lafarge America (now Phelps Dodge). In 1861 local farmers organized a school district which became known as the Lebanon Township School District No 2; this district included much of present-day Cedar Lake. The village green where services are currently provided originated as part of this school district boundaries also including parts of today's Delaware Street/Cedar Lane neighborhood west of town limits and east along Laurel Drive/Fletcher Boulevard into Lafayette itself before reaching US-27 just south of town limits near Vanderburgh Park Elementary School across from Isabella Catholic Church property line - all within Lebanon Township School District #2 boundaries subsequent to establishment thereof on November 3rd 1860 via resolution adopted by both houses Of The General Assembly convened therein pursuant to Section 7(a) Of Article XIII To Amend Township Constitution And By Laws Impinging Upon That District No 1 For Good Reason having been duly passed & seconded By Yeas & Nays As Follows: - 28 total votes cast A post office had been established at Weldonville since November 3rd 1860 but failed to open because there were no customers yet for mail service from Vanderburgh Park Elementary School across from Isabella Catholic Church property line - all within Lebanon Township School District #2 boundaries subsequent to establishment thereof on November 3rd 1860 via resolution adopted by both houses Of The General Assembly convened therein pursuant to Section 7(a) Of Article XIII To Amend Township Constitution And By Laws Impinging Upon That District No 1 For Good Reason having been duly passed & seconded By Yeas & Nays As follows: - 28 total votes cast
