The first white settlers arrived in 1814, when Jacob Hall and his family set up a home on the bank of the White River. By 1828, there were 11 families living in Carmel. A post office was established in 1835, and mail reached Carmel from as far away as Youngstown, Ohio. In 1861, after Ulysses S. Grant's military victory at Gettysburg ended the Civil War, many farmers abandoned their homes in Illinois to return to theirIndiana soils. One Hundred forty nine men founded what became known as The First American Community near where Carmel now stands (Willow Run). They called themselves "The Postmen" because they transported mail for local residents and served as a source of social support during difficult times. In 1870-71, some additional farmers moved into this original group; these new arrivals formed what became known as "The Second American Community." Thereafter each successive generation added its own pioneers until by 1910 there were 219 people residing in Carmel with farms covering an area of . Today’s businesses include: banks (One Financial Bank & Trust), health care (Hospice Of The Heartland), retail (Super 7 Martyrs Bakery), professional services (Wells Fargo Advisors Inc.), manufacturing (Auromere Cheetahs Inc.), agricultural production (Grundy Farms LLC) and educational institutions including: Northwest High School serving grades 9-12; Allen Tech High School serving grades 9-12; Harrisonburg Central Catholic School serving grades K-2; Stonington Christian School serving grades PreK through 12th grade; Holy Cross Catholic Church providing religious education for students aged 6–18 years old; Masonic Lodge #1 providing lodge memberships for adults over 21 years old who attend church services three times weekly on Wednesdays evening since 1960; Methodist Church also offering worship services on Wednesday evenings since 1960 An event that marks both significant beginnings within the community - one being when First American Post Office opened its doors - are two Birthdays Celebration events which occur every year on either side of Mother's Day: On April 14th - America's birthday On May 5th - Good Friday

Carmel, Indiana is a small town in central Indiana that was founded in 1815. The population of Carmel was 8,362 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Carmel County and the largest city in the county. The name "Carmel" originally applied to an area near the present day intersection of State Road 519 and State Road 380. The first settler in Carmel was James Witherspoon, who arrived in 1815 from New York City. He bought land on which he built a cabin and began to grow crops. In 1827, Witherspoon married Sarah Greenough and they started a family. They moved to what is now Carmel after Sarah's father died leaving her mother with six children to care for including four boys and one girl. In 1839, John Prentice built a house on what is now State Road 381 north of modern-day Carmel. He became known as the "Father of GMP". Prentice ran a store and post office here until his death in 1865. His house still stands today as part of Parkview Memorial Hospital property northeast of town along Parkview Drive between State Road 519 (now I-465) andState Road 380 (now US-20). In 1862, General George Meeker founded Meeker & Company here as a general Merchants Bank with branch locations throughout central Indiana then sold its business to JH Rothschild & Sons Limited Omaha Nebraska when it merged into Chase National Bank upon its creation October 1st 1912 . The original building still stands today (originally painted white but repainted black during prohibition era) across from Parkview Memorial Hospital on Parkview Dr., just east of I-465 exit #471A
Carmel was founded in 1836 by Peter Carmel, a Quaker. The town grew rapidly due to the production of cloth and other goods from the surrounding forests. In 1852, the first post office was established in Carmel. By 1860, the population had increased to over 1,000 people. In 1870, the first public school was built in Carmel. The town continued to grow and develop until it reached its peak in 1916 when it had a population of over 10,000 people. After World War I ended, the economy crashed and many residents left Carmel for better opportunities elsewhere. However, some residents remain in Carmel today and continue to produce goods such as clothing and furniture.
