Carmel, Indiana is home to one of the most recognized shooting ranges in the United States. The Carmel Rifle and Pistol Club has been hosting target practice sessions since 1892. Today, over 1,500 shooters from all across the U.S. come to participate in target practices at Carmel Ranges. The range began as a small pistol range located on the corner of Main and State Streets in Carmel. In 1901, the club purchased land adjacent to their current range for an even larger gunnery facility that would eventually serve as both a training ground and public Shooting Gallery. This addition helped give Carmel its reputation as one of America’s leading handgun-training destinations. In 1951, the club added a rifle division which continues to this day. That same year saw another significant change when local businesswoman Mrs. John Pritzker donated $10,000 towards acquisition of new targets and equipment for the rifle range which was dedicated on December 15th, 1952 by then-Govt. Floyd Knecht (D). At that time, it was announced that NRA President Dr George Bowen had given his blessing for handgun competition at state fairs throughout Indiana through 2021 with funds collected from STATE Fairs alone! This donation not only helped contribute significantly towards expanding our rifle range but also helped spur development of our iconic indoor pistol range which opened its doors in 1957! With more than 2 million square feet of target area available now (including additional facilities inside and outside of the park), NRA members from around the country can come join us in practicing their firearms at Carmel Rifle & Pistol Club!

The Shotgun Club of Carmel, Indiana was founded in 1925. The club has been engaging in shooting activities since then. In 1957, the club erected a target stand and began hosting matches. In 1967, the club constructed a new range which became the largest pistol range in the area. The club also hosted its first modern NRA- sanctioned shootout event in 1972.
Carmel is a town in Tipton County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,869 at the 2010 census. The name "Carmel" is derived from French and means "place of peace." The first European to visit Carmel was Giovanni da Vergnaud in 1536. Heading north along the Ohio River he heard about a beautiful place called Carmel on the side of a mountain. After his journey he named it after this location and founded a small Village thereabouts with thirty families in 1537. In 1795, when the Northwest Territory became part of the United States of America, Carmel became one of its thirteen townships. In 1802, it became an incorporated village under the name "Carmel". It had a population of 1,391 in 1880 and 2,869 as of 2010. The town has been home to several large companies including Armourmold Steel Company (founded in 1903) and Bechtels Corporation (founded 1916). Bechtels Corporation is now part of JCPenney Incorporated. A new shopping mall opened in Carmel's downtown area in 2009 that features over 350 stores and restaurants including Macy's and Sears as well as numerous small businesses within walking distance for shoppers to explore during their lunch break or evening strolls through downtown Carmel!

Some of Carmel's most famous residents include Judge David Stone Powell (1863-1934), who served as an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court from 1925-1929; Samuel Morse (1803-1875), a founder of modern telecommunications; and John Fritsch (1911-1996), an entrepreneur who developed Indianapolis' first grocery store and later became one of its largest contributors to Republican Party coffers during World War II. Today, Carmel is a thriving community with a variety of businesses and cultural activities available for visitors to enjoy. It is also home to some notable sites associated with its history: the Powell House Museum which preserves examples of mid-19th century architecture; Morton Arboretum which contains more than 200 different varieties of trees; and Dormer Presbyterian Church which was built in 1874 by James Dormer Sr., one of Indiana's most noted architects.
Carmel, Indiana was founded by the English in 1824 as a town on the banks of the White River. The first post office was established in 1825 and the first school was built in 1830. The American Civil War (1861-1865) caused great damage to Carmel and its businesses and residents were forced to flee. The town slowly recovered and became a center for agricultural production during the late 19th century. In 1914, Carmel hosted the world's second international air Races, which were won by Britain's Stirling Moss. In 1965, Carmel became an incorporated city and has since grown into one of Indiana's largest cities with over 150,000 residents.
