Hargrave and Leland initially manufactured what is now considered vintage machinery including Automatic Pistol Mfg., Inc., an armaments manufacturer that produced automatic pistols for law enforcement agencies throughout America until it went bankrupt in 1957

Carmel, Indiana is a small town in central Indiana that was founded by the Carmelites in 1824. The town has grown over time and now has a population of around 9,000 residents. It is located on the eastern edge of the state, about 20 miles south of Indianapolis. The Carmelite Fathers were responsible for much of what is now known about Carmel, including its founding and growth. Today, the nuns who run the convent here continue to play an important role in both the community and its history. The first settlement in Carmel was made up of Catholic refugees from France who had fled during the Revolution. They arrived in 1824 and built a log cabin on a hill overlooking the present-day town. Over time, other groups joined them and soon there were enough people living in Carmel to start their own church and school. In 1830, Father John Walsh found land for another convent within arm’s reach of Carmel – this one would be called St Ann’s Convent (later known as Notre Dame de la Garde). Father Walsh started construction on Notre Dame de la Garde soon after he arrived in Indianulla from his previous post as pastor at Holy Cross Parish near Fort Wayne. He began work on it on Easter morning of 1830 – just four weeks after he’d first set eyes upon it! The convent was completed two years later and served as a religious home for Sisters Marie-Therese Lefèvre d’Este (1804-1872) and Amalie Bourgeois (1811-1868). At first glance, Notre Dame de la Garde may have looked like any other smalltown convent – except that it was surrounded by an impressive nineteenth century fortress constructed by General Anthony Wayne to protect his Indian allies against French encroachment. However, once you walk through its gates you will see how different this particular convent really was: It consisted only of three large rooms with no external walls whatsoever! As word spread about Notre Dame de la Garde, more people came looking for refuge from closer to Protestant denominations such as Methodism or Anglicanism. In 1835, some members of St Ann’s decided to open their own Benedictine nunnery next door: This became known as Motherhouse Abbey (later Don Bosco Abbey). From then until 1946 when it closed due to lack Of revenue following World War II, Motherhouse Abbey functioned as both a religious center for nuns fleeing Nazi Germany during World War II along with hosting government officials when necessary; most notably President Harry Truman when he visited Motherhouse during his 1948 visit to Indianapolis . Unfortunately not everything at Motherhouse went smoothly during these years: A number of sisters experienced sexual abuse while working here which led to some major controversiesamongst devotees throughout the 1960s onwards; however those days are long gone now thanks largely to advances in modern child protection services which have been able to investigate these reports quickly & thoroughly .
