At that time, it was the onlyGun and Ammo store in Carmel. It closed its doors for good in 1959 because of the prohibitive cost of monthly subscription fees. However, the store’s legacy lives on through its successor, The Gunsmith Shop at 9018 W. Washington Street. The Gunsmith Shop started out as a small shop back in 1959 selling rifles and shotguns only. Carmel, Indiana is a small town in central Indiana. The population was 5,825 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Melrose County. The name Carmel comes from the Italian word "carmella" meaning apple orchard. The place where Carmel was founded was named for Giovanni da Carmelo, a Genoese nobleman who settled in what is now Melrose County in 1671. In 1824, the town site was renamed to honor General John Custer during his military campaigns against Native Americans on the Upper Great Lakes region of America. In 1872, two men named Wm Hite and James Fenton opened a grocery store in what is now downtown Carmel. Their store became one of the most successful in town and helped grow Carmel into an agricultural center with over $2 million worth of produce sold between 1870 and 1880. The city hall building was built here in 1907 as part of a government expansion initiative that saw many new homes erected around town during that time period. During World War II, significant amounts of munitions were produced at nearby mills which played a significant role in helping to support the war effort. One such mill complex still stands today - it is known as Smith & Nephew - and continues to play an important role in local economy today with its wide variety of products including clothing and other goods made from cotton and linen fabrics; plastics; paper products; rubber tires; aluminum products; gas turbines; electric vehicles and more! It also serves as home to numerous cultural attractions including DeSoto Park which features baseball diamonds, football fields, water slides and much more!

Carmel, Indiana was founded in 1814 by the Carmelites. The town was named after the Carmelite convent that had been established in nearby Terre Haute, Indiana. The convent served as a training center for nuns and soldiers during the American Civil War. In 1865, when Indianapolis became an independent city, Carmel became its first municipal district.
