By 1889, there were three businesses active in Brownsburg: The Manufacturing Company, the Rifle and Pistol Shop, and the Clock & Watch Store. In 1898, Target Holder Brothers was founded by brothers John W. and James E. Haggerty to produce targets from a large metal foundry located on Elm Street. They continued producing targets until 1951 when they closed their business due to declining sales.

Brownsburg is a town in Hamilton County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville–Fort Wayne Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Brownsburg was John Pemberton and his family who arrived from England on May 10, 1814. They built a cabin on what is now the corner of First and Second Streets. A post office called Brownburg was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. The town name comes from James Hance's purchase of two hundred acres (0.81 km2) of land north of present-day Brownsburg on November 6, 1827. A handrail commemorates Hance's donation at a cost of $10 per rail car to the local government as reimbursement for expenses incurred building roads and bridges across the river at that time. Hance also donated five ploughs and four horses to help with general farm operations during the early years of settlement in this area. In 1830, Isaac Norris opened a small store near where Third Street intersects First Street today which became one of many businesses open throughOUT THE COMMUNITY BACK THEN! Many people here still carry on that tradition! Today’s Moreno’s Meat market & Deli continues to serve up great food all day long! One story about Brownsburg goes back to when orange trees were being grown hereabouts and there were so many oranges exported from Brownsburg that somebody decided they needed their own street named after an export company! So without fail every new business opening got its own street name- like “Oranges Street” etcetera you get the picture 🙂 Another interesting fact about Brownsburg is that it has had 3 mayors since its incorporation- 2 male ones & 1 female one 😃
The Brownsburg Post Office was established on December 21, 1827, and opened its doors on January 1, 1828. The post office is the oldest in the town of Brownsburg.
