Brownsburg, Indiana is a small town located in the state of Indiana. The population of Brownsburg was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It lies within the Jackson County metropolitan area and is part of the Indianapolis–Cincinnati–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was named for General John Brown, who fought in the First Battle of Bull Run and later served as an ambassador to Russia. Brownsburg is also home to Fort Harrison State Park and Brownstown Methodist Church. Brownsburg began as a settlement on the banks of the Ohio River in 1824. By 1830, smallpox had killed most of the original settlers in what is now Jackson County, so a group of local men petitioned Congress to create a military post at Brownsburg to protect against future outbreaks. On July 16, 1830, General David Hunter designated Brownsville as the new site for Fort Harrison State Park. The fort was built between 1835 and 1840 on land donated by John Denny and other landowners in that area. In 1847, Colonel Alexander McMillin founded Brownstown Methodist Church here after retiring from service with United States Marines during Mexican War hostilities. He called his church "The Crossroads" because many residents worked near his store or residence on Main Street (now South Walnut Street). Brownsburg experienced its first tornado outbreak on May 6th 1911 when two tornadoes touched down within minutes of each other about five miles away from downtown Brownsburg! A third tornado touched down just outside town limits about one hour later before dissipating over nearby Clearfield Township! At least three homes were destroyed by these tornadoes which are still remembered today as some of history's worst natural disasters! In 1933, local businessmen erected a large concrete building known today as "The Old Post Office". This building served as both an administrative center for government services provided by Jackson County and also housed various businesses including several restaurants which remain open today! When it closed its doors forGoodyear Tire & Rubber Company's final storage operation in 1984 it became one of only four such historic buildings remaining inJackson County! -Fort Harrison State Park: A beautiful park located near downtown Brownsburg offers plenty activities such as fishing, hiking/climbing trails, picnicking and more throughout year long seasons; there are also playgrounds available for children year-round too! -Brownstown Methodist Church: This lovely old church has been preserved since 1954 and offers tours throughout the year; inside you will find interesting items such as organs dating back to 1829!, baptismal records from 1793!, historical paintings etc.; there’s even a garden inside if you’d like to spend some time relaxing while enjoying your sermon!

Brownsburg is a small town in Jackson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,906 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Brownsburg were two families from Kentucky who came down to this area in 1814 and started a farm. A post office was established here on October 15, 1824, and named for Capt. John Browns (1788-1846), an officer of the U.S. military during the Mexican War and afterwards a trader with Indian traders throughout his life. He had come here as part of a party under General Andrew Johnson that traveled through this country in 1825 on their way to Fort Dearborn against Tecumseh's Rebellion; after reaching Brownsburg they encamped for the night near present day Springbrook Park on the east side of town limits where they remained until continuing their journey next morning by forced march over snow covered hills to Fort Dearborn which they reached at sunrise on November 3rd In 1830–31 Captain James Ketchum built a log cabin near what is now Market Street and laid out lots around it for sale to early settlers. In 1835 he sold one lot to Abraham Goodspeed which led to the name Goodspeed Place today when goodspeed Farms was erected thereon about 1840 by Samuel Davenport Sr., one of early settlers in this area who also founded Davenport University some time later.Goodspeed Place website 2nd settler: George Fenton bought land from James Ketchum in 1836. In 1840 James Fenton built a large frame house on present day Fifth Street between Eighth and Ninth Streets with outbuildings including three barns and four acres (1 hectare) of land. He surveyed it himself using topographical mapping data gathered while surveying adjacent lands owned by other pioneers including Solomon Baird & others.
Fromaky & Brown v USA 9 Dec 1830:>On December 9th 1830 another group consisting OFAKY & Brown filed suit against US Govt saying that duelling & shooting contests going on between them & Indian Tribes were causing public disturbance etc……..Ulysses S Grant decided not to pursue any further action but ordered sheriff TOFOKEEJONES to move Inches closer t aboriginal people….

The Brownsburg, Indiana landing on the Indian River was one of the earliest documented settlements in what is now Indiana. The first group of Europeans to set foot on the Indian River were French traders and missionaries who came down in 1683. In 1795, the British established a fort at Fort Gibson on the river to control trade with the area. The fort was destroyed by a fire in 1814 and never rebuilt. In 1815, General Anthony Wayne founded a military post at Fort Wayne and named it after General James Armistead Brown that had fought in Mexico City as part of General Andrew Jackson's forces. In 1818, Captain John Warner built a small ferryboat called "Pequod" at Brownsburg for transportation between Brownsburg and Fort Wayne. The ferryman also made trips up and down the river for goods and passengers. In 1830, General Lewis Cass appointed Colonel Robert Ewing as Surveyor-General for all of central Indiana under the direction of Ulysses S. Grant. Senator Levi Morton offered funding for an canal from Vincennes to connect with Lake Michigan but Ewing convinced Cass not to build it because it would be too costly. However, when Clay Wilson became governor of Indiana in 1832, he decided to appropriate $10,000 from state coffers to build a canal through centralIndiana into Illinois based on reports that there were large amounts of saltpeter being mined near Chicago by Indians who could provide access to these resources if necessary. When Wilson learned about this project he vetoed it without explanation but when elected president Arthur Godfrey reapproached Wilson with plans for a canal through centralIndiana which Godfrey approved despite his objections about building the Canal through Indiana without getting approval from Cass (Godfrey is considered responsible for turning around Project Erie). The first locomotive ever used in Railroad history ran over tracks laid out by commissioners under orders from Governor Wilson near present day Columbus, Ohio on November 4th 1830 while traveling eastbound along what is now known as State Road No 12A
