Brownsburg, Indiana is a small town in southwestern Hindustan, India. It is the birthplace of holster manufacturer John Browning, and the location where he designed and manufactured his famous BSA revolvers. The town was also home to early American frontier law enforcement officer John H. Simms until his death in 1876. In addition to holster manufacturing, Brownsburg was also the birthplace of firearmsologist George Wickersham in 1907. Today, Brownsburg remains a small agricultural community with a population of around 1,000 people. Brownsburg is a town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute–Kosciusko Metropolitan Statistical Area. Brownsburg was founded by Captain James Caldwell on December 3, 1814 as Caldwell's Station on the Ohio River. The first post office was established in 1815 and the first store opened in 1816. In 1827, Brownsburg became the territorial capital of Kosciusko County and remained so until January 6, 1830 when Indianapolis became the permanent capital of Indiana. At that time, Brownsburg reverted to its original name of Caldwell Station and ceased to be an incorporated municipality. The first school in Brownsburg was built in1817 by Mr. John Dickson and taught school for two years before being closed due to lack of funding. A new school was built in 1819 by Mrs. Anna Ladd and operated for three years before it also closed due to lack of funding. A new school was built on the current site of Brownsburg High School in 1886 by JH Price which served for thirty-six years until it burned down on November 15, 1951. The new high school replaced the old one which had been constructed primarily with logs from local forests and had few features other than a belfry that functions as a weather station today (it has not been used since). Brownsburg has experienced many changes over its history including becoming an agricultural center during prohibition; being part of Kossuth Township during Reconstruction; becoming part of Terre Haute–Kosciusko during World War II; returning to its original name after World War II; becoming an incorporated municipality following Prohibition; serving as the territorial capital during Indian Wars I (1814-1821) and III (1824-1829); serving as both the primary commercial center within Kosciusko County during Indian Wars II (1837-1839) and IV (1845-1847), providing goods necessary for those conflicts while also hosting numerous military encampments such as Fort Harrison near present day Brownsburg; experiencing another period of change following World War II when it became an allurban community developed around heavy industry such as automobile plants located along I-65/I-465/Upper Michigan Avenue while remaining rural through most of its existence thereafter; experiencing yet another period of change following Interstate 65 construction beginning in 1987 which led to increased traffic congestion along UMPAs between Brownsburg & Terre Haute making much needed development possible along US 64 although some residents continue to oppose this typeOf Development because they feel their lifestyle will be impacted adversely ; finally undergoing significant redevelopment beginning in 2001 resulting in Brownsburg become one OF THE Most Prolific Towns In Indiana for economic development with more than $100 million dollars invested into various aspects Of Its Community since then .
