In 1845, the Brownstown Rifle and Pistol Company merged with another firearms company to form the National Armory Company. This company continued manufacturing weapons until 1861 when it moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Brownsburg is a small town in Hancock County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville metropolitan area. Brownsburg is located on State Road 362, about northwest of Evansville. The first settlement in what became Brownsburg was made by John Hance and his family in 1814. In 1834, several families moved to the community from adjoining townships and formed the nucleus of what is now Brownsburg. That year, land speculators founded a commercial center around which an agricultural society grew up to support local growth. By 1860, Brownsburg had become one of Hancock County's most important villages with a bank and five stores. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Brownsburg served as a garrison for Union troops under General David Silliman until it was surrendered on May 2, 1865; after that time its residents largely withdrew to their homes or continued to trade with outside forces. In 1862-1863 two generals fought near Brownsburg: Ulysses S. Grant and Maj Gen David Hunter respectively; during this period some 300 soldiers were quartered here including Confederate Gen Joseph Wheeler who used Brownsburg as his headquarters between battles at Perryville and Wilderness while awaiting orders from Richmond The destroyed store building still stands today as an example of early 20th century brick architecture in central Indiana On November 4th 1861 seven citizens of neighboring town Greencastle (now Danville) were killed when their wagon load of flour exploded on heavy rainfall inside their store while they were unloading supplies from a flatbed truck at the edge of town; this event remainsIndiana's leading tragedy in history Since then many people have contributed to developing economic development within the village walls Although there has been occasional violence over issues such as zoning changes or cultural differences such as use of Native American heritage elements - overall relations between different groups have generally been cooperative . The city's growth caused problems, however, as it did not have enough room for everyone. In 1865, Brownsburg merged with neighboring Terre Haute to form one larger community. The merger resulted in increased taxes for both cities and made it difficult for Brownsburg to keep up with the growing population. By 1900, Brownsburg had grown to over 1,000 residents once again. However, during World War I (1914-18), Brownsburg saw an increase in military activity due to its strategic location on the river at key points along both sides of the warring continent. This led to an increase in crime and social unrest that plagued the city until after World War II ended Chapel Street Bridge opened on September 8th 1951
The Brownsburg, Indiana community was founded in 1851. The first post office in the community was established in 1852. The present-day Brownsburg school district was formed in 1896.
