Brownsburg is a city in Kankakee County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,766 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet Metropolitan Statistical Area. Brownsburg was founded on November 1, 1811 by General James Longstreet and his force as part of the Peoria District of the Western Reserve Bank. The town was named for Colonel John Brown, who had fought in the Mexican War and then served as a colonel in General Andrew Jackson's cavalry unit during the Indian Wars. Brownsburg became an incorporated village on July 1, 1873. On February 15, 1907, it merged with nearby Terre Haute to form Brownsburg-Terre Haute Municipal Authority. The municipal authority continued to be known as Terre Haute until it again changed its name on April 6, 2009 to Brownsburg-Brownsville Municipal Authority effective July 1st 2009. The economy of Brownsburg is based largely on agriculture with a small retail sector and services being provided by businesses located in or around the city limits such as banks and health clinics. Manufacturing has been decreasing over time due to decreases in demand from overseas customers; however there are some residual operations left that produce items such as automotive parts and roofing tiles. In recent years there have been efforts made by local officials to revive the manufacturing sector but these have not yet resulted in any major progress

The racial makeup of Brownsburg was 98% white and 1% black.
The Brownsburg Post Office was established in 1892. The post office was moved to its current location in 1929.
