The first guns in Brownsburg were made by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his brother, Nicholas Conte. The first gun barrel in the city was made of a round piece of wood, with a hole bored through it. It was used to shoot arrows. In 1797, Captain John Smith founded the town of Brownsburg on the west side of the Monongahela River in what is nowPittsburgh County, Pennsylvania. In 1807, Indian Chief Black Hawk burned down part of downtown Brownsburg and destroyed many homes. The town rebuilt quickly and soon became one of Indiana's leading agricultural communities. By 1814, Brownsburg had a population of 350 residents and two stores. There were also twelve blacksmiths working in the townspeople’s shops. In 1837, Captain John Caulfield founded Brownstown on the east side of the Calumet River near present-day Greencastle, Indiana Territory. Brownstown rapidly grew into an important transportation center for central Indiana and its surrounding areas during this time period. By 1840, Brownsburg had a population of 1,500 people and five stores. It was not until after American Civil War that gun barrels started being produced in Brownsburg again beginning around 1865 or so when local smiths returned to producing arms following emancipation from federal service

Today, Brownsburg is a small town with a rich history that has been touched by many events over the years including World War II when many people worked at Arsenal Plant; the agricultural depression which hit during the early 1960s; and most recently,The India-Pakistan war which resulted in millions of dollars worth of damage to infrastructure throughout Kosciusko County combined with unemployment levels that remain high today despite efforts by local leaders to address these issues Brownsburg has a variety of businesses such as restaurants, convenience stores, Banks & Trustees Bank (now First National), Ford dealership/parts store/lawn care business( now Jiffy Lube), Applebee’s restaurant(now Denny’s), USPS post office annex(closed 2009), IHOP restaurant(now Carl’s Jr.), grocery store chains like Kroger(closed 2006), Safeway(closed 2003), etc., among others

Brownsburg is a small town in Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1834 by John Brown and his family. In 1855, the town was moved to its present location on the west bank of the White River. The first post office was established in 1835 and remained in operation until it closed in 1907. In 1933, Brownsburg incorporated as a village. On November 3, 2007, Brownsburg became a city under an agreement between the city and Hendricks County.[3] Brownsburg has two school districts: Hendricks Community Schools District #1 which serves most of the town and portions of unincorporated Hammondsville; and Terre Haute School District #2 which respresents parts of Hammonsville and parts of unincorporated Oktawatomie County (including Brownsburg). The district also includes Fort Wayne High School which is located on east side of White River within city limits but functions as a high school for students from all zip codes within city limits (though not those within unincorporated areas annexed to City Limits).[4]
Brownsburg was founded in 1814 by James Brown and his brother John. The first post office was established in Brownsburg on October 15, 1814. In 1827, the Town of Brownsburg was organized and it became a part of the new County of Harrison. On January 1, 1829, the Township of Hardin was formed within the County of Harrison and on January 3, 1830, Brownsburg amalgamated with Hardin to form the new City of Hardin. The city was named for General Andrew Jackson who had been President of the United States when it was founded. The original courthouse in town still stands today and is used as a municipal court room. The current mayor is Mike Bouchard who took office on November 1, 2017.
