As this order was being enforced through force or threats thereof some citizens chose not to comply and began to riot throughout early 1830s in what is known as “The First Great Riot” which took place from early February until late March 1830 near what is now downtown Bloomington On May 3rd 1840 Andrew Johnson issued an Executive Order called An Act To Suppress Unlawful assemblies Which Seemed To Threaten Public Safety And Nuisances In This Province This act banned any public meetings without advance notice or authorization from either Governor Johnson himself or his secretary Israel Putnam It also made flowery speeches about democracy at various public places across Midwestern United States where people could see him live In response to this order police were called out en masse into buildings throughout downtown Bloomington where dozens were arrested without warrants . After two days of peaceful protests by protesters many businesses closed their doors due primarily because they did not have enough inventory to meet demand from customers who had come into town expecting freedom while their owners remained indoors

Bloomington, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Johnson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. Bloomington was founded in 1824 as a port on the west bank of the White River by General James Wilkinson and his army during the War of 1812. He named it after his home town of Bloomingdale in England. In 1827, Indiana's first state constitution was ratified here, and Bloomington became an Insane Asylum for Lunatics. It was moved to its present location in 1852. The city’s rich history began with early settlers who arrived by boat from Illinois in 1824 and soon established themselves on land that would become one of America’s most important ports. In 1828, General James Wilkinson donated two acres (0.8 km²) of land east of downtown to become the nucleus for what would become known as “Bloomington.” This donation marked not only a turning point for Bloomington but also signaled beginning efforts to build a permanent community near where today’s downtown stands. In November 1830, President Andrew Jackson ordained Reverend Elijah Hicks as the first minister of Godfreytown Presbyterian Church – one of America’s earliest denominational churches – which served as both town hall and religious center for settlers living near what would become downtown Bloomington. By 1840, however, many people had abandoned Godfreytown because they found its rough streets and limited opportunities too hard to live up to expectations raised by new arrivals such as Jackson himself who saw this area as potential site for his presidential library and mansion on State Street (today First National Bank). Despite this negative public reaction to developments within Godfreytown limits – some residents argued that City Marshal John Pritchard should have been given control over development because he had more country experience than anyone else – entrepreneur Gideon Welles quickly emerged as leader among those behind plans to create a new township called Bloomfield Township on Eagle Creek around this time frame; Welles later served term(s) as mayor (1843-48), treasurer (1849-51), representative from Bloomfield Township before becoming Johnson County sheriff (1853-57).
