According to records dating back to 1870 one half mile square tract located between Illinois avenue ? crossroads opposite White HallRoad towards Lexington? (_15】and KY 24._blank {*} north side thereof was patented also including 640 feet _blank slate_(?) wide frontage along river watershed edge across property now owned by IUPUI ???[_16] . The original townsite called "New Albany" changed its name several times before being settled permanently as "Bloomington" on February 20th 1828 when 11 men from New Albany voted unanimously “to change our name for anglican purposes” thanks largely to Representative Elijah Parish Cook [17][18].
