Beech Grove is nestled between the rough countryside of Knox County and the rolling hills of Porter County. It's an old farming community that has seen some changes over the years. The first settlers to arrive in Beech Grove were farmers who came from Kentucky in 1811. There were two stores and one school in Beech Grove when it was founded. In 1816, a post office was established and mail was delivered to Beech Grove by stagecoach. One of the first things that settlers did was build homes on what is now Main Street. The first house on Main Street, which still stands today, was built by John Prentice in 1815-1816. The Post Office moved to its present location in 1865 and became known as Beech Grove Station. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s due to its proximity to Indianapolis and its easy access to markets for goods exported from India and China . By 1900, there were 11 businesses in Beech Grove with a total population of 2,500 people . It wasn’t until after World War II that things started changing for Beech Grove residents . Beech Grove is a small town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Beech Grove is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first settler in this area was John Beech who arrived in 1786. In 1801, a post office called Beech Grove was established and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1814, Isaac Merrill moved to this area from Terre Haute, Indiana and began developing what became known as Merrill's Prairie. He laid out a highway which ran through his land between Terre Haute and Beech Grove. This road later became State Road 716 which runs through the center of town today. In 1822, Anthony Morse located a gristmill on the banks of the White River near present day Beech Grove Elementary School and built his home there. It remains one of the few remaining structures from that time period in town. The village of Beech Grove was organized on May 22, 1836 by vote of its citizens under the name "Beach Grove Heights". On November 3rd same year be merged with nearby Belknap Township to form Butler County according to an act of Congress passed December 15th 1840 . At that time only black people lived within Butler County so this merger came as something of a surprise to many residents

Beech Grove's growth stopped around 1870 when railroads came to Beech Grove and other nearby towns. The railroad cut off access to most of Beech Grove's businesses and residents turned to farming or fishing for income. In 1900, only 8% of Beech Grove's residents were employed outside of their homes while 60%of its citizens were self-employed farmers or fisherman. However, during World War II many employees moved into local factories and businesses such as Grumman Aircraft Corporation which produced planes for America’s war effort; these companies kept BeechGrove alive until after the war ended with no new industry coming online to replace thematemporarily depleting the town’s resources which forced it into bankruptcy in 1951-1953; however before this could happen locals gathered together and formed a business group led by Mayor John Slingerland (1945-1991) known as “The Group” which purchased all of the assets of Grumman Aircraft Corporation including land located east side of I-465 north from US 421/I-465 where they would build a new city called “Braynard” which would become home to many people from BeechGrove who had lost their jobs at Grumman Aircraft Corporation during wartime; however following Mayor Slingerland’s death in 1991 his wife Jane took over management of Braynard City Hall until her death also in 1991 leaving behind much legacy that continues today including numerous cultural events held there annually such as Artfest Indy & International Arts Festival as well as developing several parks within Brayson City limits along with establishing several community colleges within Brayson City boundaries; currently over 100 years old!

Beech Grove was founded in 1810 by General Lewis Cass. The town grew rapidly due to the production of beech wood and the trade in goods that came with it. Beech Grove had a post office from 1814 until 1865. It was incorporated as a village in 1881.
