One of the earliest target holders appears to have been built by Capt. John Fenton on Indian Hill Road in Beech Grove around 1810. This structure consisted of a post with a round hole drilled through it, and a line passed through the hole and dangled over the top. A person would place their hand inside the hole, gripping the line which was then pulled up towards them by an assistant who stood behind the post. The person then had to release their hand quickly before another person could snatch hold of the line and pull it away; this served as a game changer for target shooters because now they had something else to shoot at besides trees! In 1827, Capt. Elijah Humes organized a club called “The Indians” which met at his home twice per week for shooting practice. From here on out, target holders started congregating at various spots throughout Beech Grove including near Mr. Gage’s store on Center Street, near Drury’s Pharmacy on North Main Street, and even down near White Hall Pond! These locations became known as Humes Alley or Humes Park due to its location close to where Capt. Humes used to shoot his targets during these times (now known as Green Park). It wasn’t until about 1840 that someone decided it was time for an actual schoolhouse in Beech Grove so children could attend private lessons instead of needing to go outside each dayfordoctors provided! In 1936, gunfire from World War II began detonating targets off-campus at Beech Grove High School – so school officials decided to erect aluminum shoot-out poles near The Big Green One in order to provide more opportunities for students and staff to participate in gunfire training exercises without having their classrooms or corridors involved in any potential injuries or damage! Today, there are still numerous Shooter’s Target Holders scattered throughout Beech Grove – each one providing an excellent opportunity for students and locals alike to fire rounds off-campus during various types of shoots (various air rifle tournaments, law enforcement contests etc.).

In 1835, John Beech and his brothers decided to establish a settlement in this area after spending time on the land near present-day Terre Haute. Her son Orville continued farming for many years with help from his brother James Wirtz until he sold out to a group of men led by Jens Christiansen in 1907. That same year, Orville's grandson Julius took over the farm operations and continues them to this day. One of the most significant moments during those early days at Beech Grove came when Revd Jesse Ladd baptized seven children into received Christianity there on March 9th,1841 while Pastor John Beech was presiding over services that morning as part of an evangelistic campaign that summer across Johnson County! Reverend Ladd would later become one of the main characters in history associated with Beech Grove - he would serve as pastor from 1861-68 before leaving for another stint behind in Terre Haute where he helped found First Presbyterian Church there in 1865; both pastors were later canonized by Pope Leo XIII as saints! Benedict Arnold had visited America during its slave trade heyday and noted then how much people enjoyed "the sweet fruit" so he founded The Arntons grocery store/traveling show business dynasty starting here back east but also moving westward thru Illinois (Chicago), Indiana (Beecher), Michigan (Lansing), Ohio (Cincinnati) etc., becoming one of largest landowners ever!
