Beech Grove is a town in Harrison County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. Beech Grove is part of the Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first firearms used in Beech Grove were shotguns and rifles. In 1824, Amos Spriggs founded the Spriggs Manufacturing Company in Beech Grove with twelve guns and three pistols. At one time, Beech Grove had more than one hundred residents. In 1868, David Starr became president of the National Rifle Association (NRA). He donated $5,000 to create a rifle range for Beech Grove citizens to shoot at. soon after he died in office in 1869 and his will did not include any money for gun ranges or shooting competitions among other items. However his sons continued to support NRA activities and gave millions of dollars over the years to charity organizations such as First Baptist Church of Beech Grove which hosts an annual NRA event known as FreedomFest on Labor Day weekend

Beech Grove is a small town in Hamilton County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,965 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Beech Grove was John Beech who arrived with his family in 1814. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1818, he married Anna Rankin and they moved to what is now West Side Road. They had two children: John Beech Jr., who also settled in Beech Grove, and Martha Rankin (Mrs. Thomas Rankin). In 1825, Anna died; John Jr.'s father took him and his sister to live with him on his farm near Terre Haute until their mother's death in 1830 when they were both seventeen years old. Their father died soon after that and the brothers took over their farm themselves until their father's death in 1841 when they were twenty-one years old. In 1830, John Sr.'s brother William Rankin purchased the farm fromJohn Jr.. William raised corn and hay for his animals while he farmed the land; he also constructed a large barn which served as home for many years. In 1840, William sold the land to James Iversen who built a house on it which still stands today – one of only two houses standing from that era in Beech Grove! James Iversen was a farmer and storekeeper who lived close by on Princeton Avenue during much of this time period; he may have been responsible for changing the name of Beech Grove from "Rankinville" to "Iversenville" after coming into possession of the property! James Iversen & His Wife - Mrs Thomas Rankin (1830-1920) became known locally as "The Lady Iverson". She was born at Clear Lake Missionary Baptist Churchnear Vincennes Indiana on December 12th 1830the daughter of Dr David Rankin (1789-1870) an early pioneer doctor & missionary wife Lydia Coleman (1796-1850). Mrs Thomas Ragin taught school nearby from about 1840-60 before becoming an accomplished musician (& singer) herself later teaching musicology at Purdue University where she remains Emeritus Professor since 1988! After her husband's death she continued running her household including managing 3 businesses viz One Clothing Store(owned&operated by her late husband), Telephone Service Company(which operated out of her residence thru 2 long distance operators Miss Jane Roehnerand Mrs Harry Henson during WW II), Thoroughbred breeding stable located just downTown roadfrom houseknown as 'Hershey'during prohibition days!
