By 1870, Beech Grove was home to one of the largest leather tanneries in America, and holsters were becoming increasingly popular among law enforcement officers and militiamen. The use of holsters also came to be seen as an essential part of responsible gun ownership by many residents in the early 20th century.
Beech Grove is a small town in north central Indiana, United States. The population was 4,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is served by the Beech Grove Township School District. The name of the town comes from beech trees which grow abundantly in this part of the country. The first settlers to Beech Grove were farmers who had bought land from the Potawatomi Nation. They built their homes on high ground overlooking the village now known as Beech Grove Village. The first post office in Beech Grove was established in 1817, and it operated until 1827. The first store in Beech Grove was opened in 1824 by John J. Muhlenberg and his brother-in-law Jacob Rosenbach. In 1828, a sawmill and gristmill were built near where present day State Road 6 intersects US-31E (now US-6). These mills became major engines of growth for Beech Grove Village until they closed around 1920 when most of the village's businesses moved away to larger towns within a few miles of BeechGrove Village center like Merrillville or Peru Junction due to prohibition laws then still pervasive throughout much of America. The post office name change from "BeechGrove" to "Merrillville" occurred on November 1, 1922 after local resident Samuel Merrill donated $5 for that purpose during an election held that year. This was also after another large increase in population along with more businesses moving into what was then an agricultural community because OFW law did not allow alcohol sales within walking distance of schoolchildren so many young people grew up without tasting intoxicating drinks until adulthood! In 1925, two additions to nearby Merrillville – one housing a bank and one including a movie theater – increased its population by over 100%. By 1930, there were over 350 residents living in Merrillville alone! In 1933, word spread about newly formed BEECH GROVE COMMUNITY TV SERVICE CO., INC., which offered programming such as news shows, sports events and movies through antennas perched atop various trees around town! services began on July 15th1933 with just 5 subscribers! Over time more antennas were added making BEECH GROVE TV service available to nearly every house & barn within sight—-henceforth known as “TV Town” !! With today’s technology we can still enjoy quality programming today thru our digital devices (& internet streaming)

The community began as a Methodist parish in 1814 and grew quickly due to its fertile land and well-developed infrastructure. Beech Grove became an incorporated town in 1907. The area that makes up Beech Grove today was originally part of the Town of Goshen, which was merged into Beech Grove in 1907. Beech Grove is located on the eastern edge of Indianapolis, just south of I-465. It straddles both banks of the Wabash River and occupies parts of five counties - Kosciusko, Hendricks, La Porte, Porter and Posey - making it one of the most diverse communities in Indiana. Beach Grove is home to several important historical sites including: Gray House Museum, founded by Gov. John Evans; First Presbyterian Church (founded in 1810), one of the first churches in Indiana; North High School (now known as Shriver Center for Learning), built in 1922; and Butler National Laboratory (now known as National Renewable Energy Laboratory). In addition to its rich history, Beech Grove also offers many recreational opportunities such as golfing, fishing, hiking/mountain biking and running/jogging.
Beech Grove is a village in and the seat of Beech Grove Township, in Butler County, Indiana. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1814 by General Anthony Wayne and named for beech trees that had been brought to the area from England.
