The SLLR was first developed by General George Armstrong Custer during the Indian Wars in 1876 and successfully employed against Native Americans at the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1878. The SLLR is still beingused today in many military applications such as infantry fire support, sniper rifles, and heavy machineguns

Beech Grove is a small town in Harrison County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,847 at the 2010 census. Beech Grove is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Beech Grove was David Beech who arrived in 1802 and homesteaded on the land that now includes Beech Grove. David's son John Beech also settled in Beech Grove. In 1812, George Washington and his party were visiting Harrison County when they came to Beech Grove for a morning coffee and were impressed by the beauty of the area. They named the settlement after General James Wilkinson (1785-1850) who had fought with Washington during the War of 1812. The community grew rapidly from its initial settlers and by 1850 it had a post office, two churches, three stores, four blacksmiths, six farmers, fourteen homes and twenty-seven residents. By 1860 there were sixteen residents living in what is now downtown BeechGrove. By 1870 there were thirty-eight residents living in what is now downtown BeechGrove with nineteen businesses including two banks and eleven grocery stores. In 1907 George Wickersham bequeathed $5 million to Indiana University which helped make possible construction of several large campus buildings including Memorial Stadium which seats 82,000 people today and Brown Hall which seats over fifty thousand people per event. The following year saw one of history’s biggest explosions when an oil well exploded just outside of town killing five people and injuring seventy-five others while producing millions of gallons of gasoline that destroyed many homes around town as well as damaging other structures including a few churches (Stratte Methodist Church remains standing today). Since then much has been done to clean up the area resulting in an almostacreage cleanup across all of downtown except for some areas still containing hazardous materials such as old tanks used for storage purposes (now filled with concrete). Downtown also has been renovated into a modern district complete with high school students housing; Job Corps; restaurants/bars; movie theaters;and more recently apartments/houses are being built throughout most or all parts of town making it one continuous liveable area without any need for leave from work or school let alone anything else!

The town was founded by Quakers in 1812 as Beech Grove Township. In 1827, it became a village and in 1877 it became a town. Beech Grove had a population of 1,512 at the 2010 census. In 1911, Beech Grove was merged with neighboring Whitehall to form what is now known as Whitehall-Beech Grove Township. In 1916, Beech Grove became one of three townships within the newly formed Howard County municipality. In 1959, the township was again merged into the larger municipality of Indianapolis. Since then, Beech Grove has experienced slight growth but steady technological advancement including several large businesses and homes being built along its major thoroughfares like Elmwood Avenue and High Street.
Beech Grove is a census-designated place (CDP) in Decatur County, Indiana. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first settler in Beech Grove was Hiram Hensley, who arrived on July 6, 1824. He and his family were the first white people to live in what is now Decatur County. Hiram's brother Jacob had also settled there two years earlier. In 1829, John A. Woodruff built a cabin near present day Beech Grove Lake on land that he had purchased from the^ Potts brothers. In 1830, James Waddell moved to Beech Grove and started an early cotton gin operation. By 1836, all of Decatur County had been organized into districts; Beech Grove was included within district No. 2. In 1840, Captain Benjamin Fenton erected a log cabin on what is now U Street in town which served as the nucleus for what would become Beech Grove School District No.. 3 (). The school district was organized effective March 4, 1841 when it absorbed parts of No.. 2 (). On October 14th of that year Judge Augustus Woodward officiated at dedication of First Presbyterian Church (), which replaced an earlier meetinghouse that burned down one year prior%. On November 30th Reverend David Sargent preached his inaugural sermon at Second Presbyterian Church (). It wasn't until 1862 when Abraham Lincoln visited Peoria and took possession of Fort Pillow () that General Alexander Hays decided to move westward along the bottoms of the River Styx instead of pursuing further north via Evansville (). With Independence Day just around the corner (July 4th), Hays ordered his men to march out onto Indian Territory and take possession of Rolla (), Mooneyville () and other towns located east between Fort Harrison on the Kentucky border and Wichita Falls (), Texas (then called Brazoria County). When news reached Peoria that General Hays' forces had marched through their territory without warning them or taking any hostages (!), many residents surrendered rather than becomeiliated with this unwanted government intrusion into their lives (+100% casualties@ approximately $2 million total!). Of note are also three sets of cannonballs found northwest/southwest of town during archaeological digs conducted by local volunteers over several summers (+200 lbs.)
