The Beech Grove Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1881. The club originally met at the home of Dr. George W. Beech, a dentist who also served as its first President. In 1895, the club moved to a new facility on Main Street in Beech Grove. The club continued to meet there until 1919 when it relocated again, this time to the old Masonic Lodge on North Main Street in Beech Grove. The club met there until 1961 when it disbanded due to lack of membership.

The community began to grow slowly but surely over time as more people found their way here and began building new homes and businesses. In 1922, Beech Grove had its first post office which served as an important hub for communication within the community throughout its early years. In 1951, Beech Grove became an incorporated municipality with full voting power and government services were Provided through a City Council form of government which continues today!

The area that would become Beech Grove was first settled by Germans in the late 18th century. In 1814, General David Beatty and his army burned down a German settlement on the edge of what would become Beech Grove. The first post office in Beech Grove was established in 1827; it was known as "Emmetstown". In 1830, the name change to "Beech Grove" after one of the groves in town. The original courthouse building still stands, used as a community center and public library since 1984. In 1901, several local businessmen petitioned for cityhood; when they received approval from the Indiana State Legislature, they formed "Beech Grove City." The city charter was ratified on November 3, 1901. The population reached 2,000 by 1910 due to new subdivisions and annexations within Beechgrove limits. But growth didn't continue apace; by 1920 only 1,898 people lived in Beech Grove – an all-time low for a city with such large borders! However some factors were responsible for this stagnation: lack of water supplies (due toxaplaination), high tuition rates at nearby college campuses (which discouraged many students from moving to smaller towns), and World War I shortages that caused prices to skyrocket on food items like meat and vegetables which made life difficult for small businesses owners who couldn’t afford skyrocketing costs just when demand was highest
