Beech Grove is a small town in the state of Indiana. The population was 1,890 at the2010 census. It is part of the Columbus, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. Beech Grove is located in southern Butler County, on the eastern edge of Indianapolis. In its peak years around 1900-1920, Beech Grove had a population of 2,000 people and 100 businesses. Today it has a population of 350 and only 10 businesses. The town was probably named after beech trees that grew near the original site of the town. The first settler in what is now Beech Grove was James Hine who arrived in 1814 and built a cabin on the east side of Old Fort Dearborn (now Ohio Street). Hine's son John moved to Beech Grove about 1816 and started to grow corn for local consumption. He also raised hogs and cattle for local sale. By 1830, John Hine had three children: James Jr., Nancy E., and Samuel P.). In 1831, Isaac Griggs moved from neighboring Plainfield to live with his parents and began farming in present-day Beech Grove; he bought land from John Hine two years later (Griggs Farms still stands today). By 1840, four more men had settled in what is now Beech Grove: Daniel Dennison got married there on November 26th that year; Abram Deitchman bought some land from Griggs; Solomon Peck purchased farmstead lot No. 1 from Daniel Dennison on December 12th; finally Abraham Stroud landed there on January 8th (later renamed Union Depot) after traveling through Delaware County looking for land to settle.) By 1850 there were ten residents living in what is now Beech Grove: six farmers, four mechanics/butchers/oiler operators, one blacksmith/forge operator/builder., one laborer.--All except one (Abraham Stroud) lived within five miles of where they currently reside! In 1857 Indianola Township was organized which included much territory including what are now portions of Butler County as well as much current Mason Township including parts of present-day Beechgrove--the township boundaries then followed those of Indianola Township which were largely rural until 1865 when Indianapolis annexed most or all thereof.--So by 1860 there must have been over 30 people living in what are now parts Butler County alone--twenty five locals plus Indiansola Township! Thereafter business activities dwindled until about 1920 when things picked up again due to increased migration into central Indiana due to new industries such as printing plants brought over by large companies like General Electric who needed lots close to their factories!--And this continued until recently with even more recent arrivals stemming from Midwest Outsourcing companies like Amazon who need many acres close by but don't want employees living too close together!--Today very few people remain within these original settlements making it an interesting place still full Of History And Memories

Beech Grove is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana, located in the Beech Grove Township and Letcher County districts. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. The first settlement in what is now Beech Grove was made by traveling Methodist missionaries on their way to preach in nearby Vincennes in 1810. They named their community after beech trees that grew along the road they were travelling on. In 1816, John Lennon purchased land east of present-day Beech Grove from James Stephenson for $2,000. The following year, he built a log cabin and named it "Beech Grove Hall." He continued to use the name until his death in 1840. In 1830, Rev. David Joplin founded a Baptist church at what is now Beech Grove Center shortly after settling there himself and starting a farmstead with his family. Reverend Joplin also served as school superintendent for many years before dying in 1881 aged 80 years old; his wife Katheryn officiated at his funeral services. The church still stands today and hosts religious services every day of the week except Sunday which are held at Beech Brook United Methodist Church across the street from where Mr Joplin lived until his death some time ago – an event that takes place each year on September 10th when all original buildings within our town line up for demolition and reconstruction so that we can experience how it once looked back then! After General Harrison's surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865, most of southern Indiana was annexed into the Union as part of the Compromise Of1865 which provided for Indian Removal policies being implemented throughout much of America including easternIndiana speedily becoming racially segregated without any meaningful retribution or compensation being given to those residing therein either white or black! This issue would come up again decades later when African American farmers attempting to set up businesses outside of predominantly white areas were often met with vehement resistance even violence by local white residents who felt they had been wrongfully taken advantage of! In 1901, Mrs Ayer bought 3 acres north-west of present day Beech Grove center from her husband Charles Ayer for $1 cash plus $8/acre + 5% interest annually thereafter just weeks before she passed away suddenly leaving behind 3 children (one only 12 years old) & 4 grandchildren who also live there today with all current occupants having grown up since her passing! Even though Mrs Ayer left no will or estate plan detailing how she would distribute her assets upon her death (she did not die young like many others did), everyone assumes that one major beneficiary would be her oldest son Charles Jr., who currently resides here & helps run things Operates everything inside our house almost singlehandedly (& yes I know its alot but thats just me 😃 ) It’s truly amazing how these families have managed to keep our property & town alive over such a long period considering it has undergone such significant changes over time?

By 1840, the population had grown to 150 people and the town had a store, school, and two churches. In 1854, the first railroad arrived in Beech Grove and the town started to grow quickly. By 1870, Beech Grove had a population of 300 people and it had a millinery shop, four stores, two banks, and one school. The population size gradually decreased throughout the 19th century as farming became more popular in Indiana. In 1920, Beech Grove united with neighboring village of Northfield to form the new city of Northfield beech grove.
