Beech Grove is a small town in Jefferson Township, in the southern part of Indiana. It is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Indianapolis and 50 miles (80 km) east of Columbus. According to the 2010 census, the population was 1,865. The name Beech Grove comes from the beech tree which is common in this area. The first settler in Beech Grove was Ebenezer Brown who arrived in 1827. He built a cabin on the banks of the White River. After a few years, he moved his family to nearby Greenfield and began trading goods with other farmers in that area. In 1830, Ebenezer's son Daniel took over his father's trading business and built a store on Main Street within what is now Beech Grove Village. Daniel Brown continued running his store until 1886 when it closed for good due to economic difficulties. The first post office was established at Beech Grove on December 16, 1833, by Joel Chandler Post Jr.. The first postmaster General was James Kapp; he served from 1835-1836. One of the early settlers to arrive in Beech Grove was John Cook who settled around 1840 near where the current community stands today. Cook started a gristmill that still remains operational today and manufactured flour and meal for local grocery stores until 1974 when it closed down due to lack of demand. Beside Grains & Grain mill there were several other businesses such as: A prosperous grocery store operated by Mrs Juhlman called "Juhlmans", dry goods store operated by Mr Wohlgemuth called "Wohlgemuths", Odd Fellows lodge No 2 conducted religious services at their meeting house from 1853-1957called "Lodge No". Lodge No also furnished clothing for many residents during those years

Beech Grove is a small town in Crawford County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute metropolitan area. The first settler in Beech Grove was John Beech who arrived in 1804. The name of the community may come from beech trees which grew abundantly near where he lived. In 1825, Isaac Weller acquired 640 acres (248 km²) of land southwest of Beech Grove and named it Wellerstown after himself and his brother-in-law Amos Weller. A post office called Wellerstown was established in 1827, and remained open until 1907. Beloved children's author Dr Seuss published three books about Beech Grove during his lifetime: "You Can't Take It With You" (1957), " Horton Hears a Who! (1958)", and "Green Eggs and Ham" (1960). Dr Seuss also penned one book about life in Beech Grove during World War II: "Make Way for Ducklings!" In 1951, local businessman Homer Davenport donated 1,500 acres (608 hectares) of forestland to the town for use as a park; this included parts of what is now known as downtown Beech Grove. The park originally consisted only of a few dozen acres (8 km²), but over time has grown to include over 100 acres (40 km²). Today, the park includes a playground, an amphitheater/festival site, lawns for gatherings such as Fourth of July fireworks displays or dog shows, several miles (16 km) of hiking trails through woodlands and hills on both sides of I-65 outside town limits, as well as several swimming pools and tennis courts.>>
