The village lost its charter in 1860 but continued to exist as a separate municipality until it merged with Munster on February 15, 1902. Beech Grove is located at (39.833334, -85.195059). According to the 2000 census, the median household income is $52,096 and the population has grown from 1,463 to 1,521 since 2000. The unemployment rate is 5%. Beech Grove is a small town in Northwest Indiana, United States. The population was 1,847 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute,IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Beech Grove was Abram Deeds, who arrived in 1827. John Ladd and his family moved to Beech Grove in 1834. They were followed by Samuel and Anna Nicks, who settled there in 1837. David and Sarah Cook also lived in Beech Grove for a time before moving to Terre Haute. In 1840, John Kapp acquired land north of Beech Grove on which he built a cabin named "Kapp's Log Cabin" after himself and his father-in-law Jacob Kapp. The name "Beech Grove" first appeared on official maps as early as 1847 when it was spelled "Beech Gore". In 1850, James Cockerill purchased from Abram Deeds 640 acres (2 km²) of land south of Beech Grove which he called "Cockerill's Prairie". He built a log cabin there which remains extant today as the oldest standing structure located within the boundaries of Beech Grove. By 1870, most of what is now Beech Grove had been developed as agricultural villages surrounding larger towns such as Terre Haute or Garysburg due to railroad construction across the region during that decade linking these areas with Chicago via Illinois Central Railroad tracks running through central Indiana (the so-called "Great Northern" line). However, by 1880 only 4 houses remained among an estimated 2 thousand residents living within what would become known as Beaver Creek Township; all but one serving primarily local purposes including mail service and cemetery services until their demolition some time between 1945 and 1950 when they were replaced by new homes designed by Des Moines architect Harry Weisbrod under contract with then township manager Edwin Larkin for use principally for light industry workers employed at nearby plants owned by Bethlehem Steel Corporation adjacent to then township limits on both sides of Beaver Creek River extending into present day Monmouth County eastward to its confluence with Delaware River just south of Trenton Heights along its northern border separating current day Monmouth County from New Jersey; this area became known locally as the Steel Belt because many manufacturing plants were located there during this period including those operated by General Motors Corporation (later Chrysler), Ford Motor Company and American Electric Power Company among others In 1893–94 Daniel Webster opened his bakery on Main Street southwest of town square where he operated it until 1900 when he sold it to Wm Wallingford who operated it until 1959 when it closed down due to competition from larger local bakery owners Brown & Williamson Incorporatedometime between 1945 and 1950 Beaver creek Township demolished all its original homes except those still standing serving primarily local purposes brown& Williamson Incorporation demolished them
